“nice place - not expensive”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

This is the first time that I have a decent experience staying in Amsterdam. I stayed in this hotel with my husband and our baby daughter (6 months old). We all slept in a double bed and it was fine. I have lived in the Netherlands for four years and I know that it is almost impossible to find a clean, cheap, nice and well located hotel in Amsterdam. This one is an old house. So, I did not really expect a lift. On the contrary, I was surprised with the spacious stairs.

Cons: I did not like the cat walking around in the kitchen as I was having breakfast.

Hotel is just 5 min from Waterloo plein and the Opera,
at the VERY quiet and cozy canal,

The room (Small Double Room) was really small, but it was funny, cozy and clean.
breakfast was good and the stuff very friendly.
very good option for this money!

The only one thing I did not like - there is no elevator, and as long as my room was on 4th floor it was pretty difficult to get there with my bag. But the stuff helped.

Will stay here again!

Room Tip: Dont book the "small double room" - it is really too small even for one person;))))

It's not an easy task to find a hotel room for four in Amsterdam - you either have to stay in bad hostels, pay a 300 € cash deposit or pay ridiculous amounts for the room. Hotel Hermitage was convenintly located. There's a tram stop right by, the metro station is in a short walking distance and it's not a long walk to the city center either. The staff was very friendly, too. The hotel breakfast was cheap in Amsterdam standars (only 6€ p.p.). It wasn't anything fancy but enough to keep you going for half a day, and good value for 6€.

Hotel is in a great spot. Its right near the Metro, 2 stops from Centraal Station and a nice walk to Jordaan and even to Vondel Park. Good nearby restaurants and coffee shops. The staff was nice and accommodating. We ended up in 3 different rooms and the large double rooms are a decent size but anything they have smaller than that, it's definitely a small space. Bathrooms are very small as well. No lifts/elevators. As long as you're not planning on hanging out in your room all day, this hotel has pretty much what you need. Bring your own toiletries!

It's a cute hotel in a nice location across a canal from the Hermitage Museum. I had a single room with a tiny tiny restroom. The room was small, but not claustrophobic. It's a walk-up building, but the stairs are wide enough to easily maneuver luggage.Unfortunately I was on the first floor on the street side, and there was a lot of noise at night, making it hard to sleep. The bathroom was cute, but really really small, it could have been laid out better too even with the limited space. I'm tall so I had to sit sideways on the toilet, because my knees didn't fit the other way. I thought I'd open the door to the shower and problem solved, but no. The door to the shower opens out, but can't open all the way, the toilet blocks it, giving a only a small opening to the shower. If you're plus size at all you're going to have to squeeze into the shower. All and all it's an okay place, and the staff if friendly and helpful, but I probably wouldn't stay here again.
