A friend and I stayed at the Meininger in a dorm style room, and we had a pleasant stay. The hotel and room was very clean and the beds were very comfortable. each bed had it's own outlet, shelf, and light. The room had its own private toilet and shower to share between 7 people which was fine. The only issue was that they are in two separate rooms and the sink is in the main room. It was inconvenient when we wanted to get up early and get ready in the morning but our roommates were still sleeping; we didn't want to turn on the lights over the sink because it would disturb or wake them. But when that happened, we just went to the bathroom downstairs near the lobby. Also, the lockers in the room were fine, but if you bring your own lock, make sure it isn't a small lock, because they don't work very well with the lockers. And if you forget, there are locks for purchase at the hotel too. Otherwise, the rooms were very satisfactory.
We didn´t eat at the hostel, so I can't comment on the breakfast, but I know it was available for around 6 euro, all you can eat. The staff was friendly, and fairly knowledgeable. There is also a storage room if you need to store your luggage if you arrive before check in.
Lastly, the location was conveniently located just steps from the train/bus station. From the Schipol Airport, you can easily hop on a bus that goes right to the station near the hotel (about 40 minutes). To take the train to the Amsterdam central station from the hotel station is about 5 minutes. To take the bus from the hotel, it is about 20 minutes to Amsterdam central station. Night busses also run every half hour going to and from the city center. My friend and I got the Iamsterdam card, so taking the bus to the city was free.
Overall, we had a nice stay at the Meininger Hotel Amsterdam!
