in general, the hostel was good. it's located in a good place, not far from the city center and the night clubs, although in my opinion that's not an important thing because night life in amsterdam isn't really good, at least in comparison with the spanish one. pubs are bad and expensives, for me it's a calm city to smoke pot and be with friends. it seems to be a small city and hostels locations are not so important because you can arrive to the city center quite rapidly. for example, due to problems finding a way to arrive to amsterdam's train station to go to the airport we looked into the posibility of going there by walk instead of using the buses or trams. so that's an idea of how small the city is.
the staff is nice, not the best in the world but it's ok. our room was clean but it seemed that the staff didn't clean it everyday. we left the hostel with the idea that if we had stayed there in late august the room would be much dirtier; in mid july it was correct, the floor a bit dusty and the sheets a bit stained but the wc and the shower were ok.
bunk beds were good and sleeping was ok, but it's a hostel and if you have to share the room with other people you may get wake up in the middle when people enter the room after going out late.
the hostel's security was very good, there are people all over the first floor at all hours, in the billiards, in the computers, sitting in the couches with a beer in their hands or outside the hostel smoking pot. the hostel is next to vondelpark so if you want to eat magic mushrooms that's a great place to have the trip.
the worst thing was the prices, VERY expensive. bring your own towels because hostel ones are really small and they cost €3.50! the price per night was also expensive, but less than other hostels. it seems that holland is an expensive country in general. people are very materialists, something that collides with the idea that some may have about the country due to the legal permisivity with drugs or prostitution.
breakfast was included with the price and it was really good, so make use of it.
in conclusion, the hostel was good. even if you find bad comments in my critic, i don't think you will find anything better in amsterdam for the same price.
