Rijsel is so popular you have to reserve, preferably a long time in advance, but believe the hype. It serves really no-nonsense food (mainly French) - fish soups, terrines, roast chicken, steak, etc. There are some vegetarian options too. Dishes come with un-fussy platters of green salad, roast potatoes and other simple but delicious sides. The wine, cheese and sweets selections are great. Even the handwash in the loos is lovely!

This is definitely one of my Amsterdam favourites. The food is simple and really well prepared. The menu is small which is great. The atmosphere is very relaxed and informal and the service is friendly and personable. The wines are super and many are served by the glass. A joy from the beginning to the end, but you have to book way in advance. Do!

The settings at Rijsel are pretty casual and you immediately get this 'be at home' feeling. The clientele could be a mix of fine dinners and area locals all mingling in a nice atmosphere.

The focus here is on great food: a short menu created using quality products cooked to perfection. The Roasted Chicken was mouth watering and the side dishes excellent in their simplicity. Rijsel offers a great selection of nice wine at affordable prices.

Thank you Ard from Hotel V for recommended this non touristy place with great food and friendly staff. Perfect after a whole day walking around in Amsterdam.

We've already recommended Rijsel to a few friends visiting Amsterdam in the coming weeks.

This could easily become one of my favorite restaurants because they found an almost perfect balance between atmosphere, cuisine, service and prices. This is rare anywhere, and almost impossible to imagine in Amsterdam where service is usually not up to standard.
It is difficult to describe, but i will give it a try. The restaurant itself is very informal as a setting; something approaching a large bistro. The wine list is very well balanced with an interesting choice. I needed help here and the advice was knowledgeable and friendly. Prices very reasonable as well. The service had the same balance of informality and efficiency. There was also a good team spirit (nothing like "this is not my table" type of behavior). Finally, the most important, i.e. the food. Excellent old-fashioned food; first class ingredients cooked to perfection. Presentation is simple and it is the food that stands out in all its simplicity. Really amazing tastes. They appear to change quite often the menu. A good reason to go back soon. It seems to be difficult to get a reservation; better book well in advance.

The small but delightful menu at Rijsel provides delicious food at sensible prices. The wine list is also very good and sensibly priced. The atmosphere is very informal and has been mentioned elsewhere on TA the acoustics do provide a fairly noisy environment. Nevertheless a visit is well worth while, the chicken, for which they are justifiably famous, is quite superb. The service is very friendly and efficient. Do book as early in advance as you are able.
