We booked this hotel as it looked interesting, we've been to the 'dam a few times now and wanted to try something different.
However, it was not quite what we expected....After finally finding it (tiny sliver of a building!)we picked up the key for the room from the bar beneath the hotel and headed upstairs.
The stairs have no handrail are amazingly steep, quite hard to believe they're actually legal in a hotel. Anyway, got into the room which was fairly small but clean. However,we soon realised that there was no toilet. I had booked a twin room with shower, assuming in my innocence that a loo came along with it! I was wrong it was outside on the landing and whilst clean it is just not something we could compromise on.
The room decor was like student 'digs' (unloved rented accomodation) and if you stood by the window was in danger of developing frostbite as the draught was so bad it was like one of the windows was open.
So, we beat a hasty retreat to get somewhere warm and with it's own loo (NH Schiller, where we'd been previously)
This is not to say that the Hemp Hotel is terrible, it's not, just know what to expect. It's a budget hotel which is not made clear on it's website. It is defintitely not suitable for families or anyone needing the privacy of their own bathroom.
