Owner description: One of Amsterdam's main squares, this is an ideal place to sit on one of the many terraces and watch the world go by.

What a dump. Lots of bars and tacky restaurants. A real tourist trap. Avoid it if you can and go and visit somewhere else.

Highly recommended if you want generic overpriced bars and clubs (literally, some are franchises which exist in several Dutch cities) filled with generic drunk or stoned tourists. Avoid in all other cases.

The Rembrandtplein used to have a large variety of restaurants and bars with a nice green in the middle.
In the meantime many of the bars and restaurants have been replaced by Coffeeshops and the green gone.

While there are certainly much nicer neighborhoods in Amsterdam, this square has a little something for everyone. Though it is mostly filled with bars, pubs, restaurants and even a couple of casinos. The famous Three Sisters Grand Pub is located here, along with Smokeys "Juice Bar" which I recommend if your into that stuff. (large menu, ample room inside and a couple pool tables....good overall vibe). Even if your not a bar hopper, there's a lot of great restaurants located here. Don't be afraid to wander through the connecting alleyways, that's where some of these small gems of a restaurant are located.
Its also a superb area to meet up, people watch or plan out what to do next, and since its a centerally located most other sites are within easy walking distance of this square.
