We've just returned from a three night stay in the Jasmine Room at Sunhead of 1617. We opted for a B&B because we wanted a real Dutch experience rather than that from an impersonal hotel. All aspects of our stay were excellent. The canal-facing room and en-suite were clean and well equipped; the bed was comfortable and the stylish breakfasts (different each morning) provided a great start to the day. Sunhead is on a quiet stretch of Herengracht, but is in easy walking distance of most central area places of interest and the tram network. Proprietors Carlos and Roelff-Jan are accomplished and entertaining hosts, ready with useful advice about eating places and things to see and do in Amsterdam. As with many 17 century houses in Amsterdam, the Sunhead stairs are steep and need some care.

This charming and stylish B&B is such a lovely place to stay. The location is great - walking distance to all places of interest but quiet and in a beautiful position overlooking a canal. This area of Amsterdam is wonderful and benefits from some great bars and restaurants nearby. Carlos is a character and welcomed us and offered good advice re places to visit and recommended using the boats rather than the buses/trams which we did and thoroughly enjoyed. His breakfasts were fantastic - especially enjoyed the raspberry smoothie with ginger and chilli on our first morning followed by mozzarella/tomato and salad. We will definitely return and would recommend this accomodation to anyone.

Room Tip: We were in the Jasmine room which had a wonderful view of the canal. Highly recommend it.

We had a fabulous time in Amsterdam thanks to choosing this wonderful B&B - it is beautifully decorated and perfectly placed, right in the middle of everthing, yet quiet - we slept really well. The Tulip room was delightful, warm and comfortable with a wonderful view over the canal. Breakfast was delicious with freshly squeezed orange juice and real coffee, croissants, home made muffins and eggs cooked to suit our tastes with always an interesting and entertaining conversation as garnish! Carlos did everything he could to ensure we had a great stay, recommending places to visit (loved the markets) and authentic Dutch restaurant (Bij Ons). The steep staircase was a challenge but gave us a real experience of a traditional canalside house. We can't wait to visit again!

Room Tip: The Tulip Room was perfect looking onto the Herengracht Canal - it is at the top of the house and th...

What a wonderful find! A cosy and stylish B&deliciousB in the centre of Amsterdam. Carlos (the owner) is really quite something - and he catered to our fussy eating requirements. There are only a few rooms which meant that the service was really personal; we got some really good advice about visits etc. Great location - we were able to walk to all the places of interest, and it wasn't noisy at all either. I'd recommend Sunhead to anyone and everyone!

Room Tip: We stayed in both Narcissus and Jasmine room; we preferred Jasmine, which had a lovely view of the c...

My sister and I stayed at Sunhead when we went to Amsterdam. I don't know how other B&B's go, but they can't possibly be better than Sunhead.

First, its location is very practical. You're practically a stones throw away from various places of interest. It's also situated along the herengracht canal. It makes for a pretty good view, to say the least.

The building itself is very charming. The inside is furnished extremely well.

Carlos and RoelfJan, the hosts, are extremely kind and accomodating. They are both obviously very happy with what they do, and that reflects on the service they give you. They feel more like friends than hosts. Great people.

Carlos cooks breakfast. I don't even want to describe it. I'll only get depressed because I have to cook my own breakfast when I get home. Needless to say, It wont be as good as Carlos' cooking...

All in all, Sunhead was an excellent choice. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Sunhead's hosts (Carlos & Roelf-Jan) were delightful to meet and gave us a warm welcome. My family and I greatly appreciated their hospitality which made us feel more comfortable in an environment that was brand new to us. They even made time to accompany us on a trip around the canal. Which, conveniently, is situated right in front of their B & B. The location, cozy rooms, hospitality and Carlos' meals, as an added bonus, made our trip one to never forget.

Truly, I plan to come back with my family to this home away from home sometime in the near future.
