This place was disgusting! We should have realised as soon as we sat in the bar area waiting for our room! The cushions were worn, dirty and ripped. The surround of the sink in the toilet in the bar area was caving in with wet and was really smelly. We are not posh people and are quite used to down market hotels as long as the room is clean, IT WAS FAR FROM EVEN CLOSE TO CLEAN. The banister was filthy and worn, the fire alarm was covered in filth, the paint work was flaking and dirty. The room was smelly, paper peeling and filth all around the foors. Net curtains were stained and torn, the "double" bed was two stained single mattresses, topped with stained sheets. The repairs in the bathroom were filthy as was the woodwork, and all kinds of rubbish was thrown outside our window. The toilet seat was also broken. We complained straight away only to be told that the smell came from the canal!! Funny considering that there was no smell outside beside the water. I would advise that no one stays here it really was the worst place ever! The pictures on the website are in no way representative of our experience, dont even think of staying here, we left without staying and lost our money as it was taken at time of booking.

We chose this hotel because location was good and price was reasonable.

Good things about hotel:
1) breakfast was decent. Ham, cheese, toast, scrambled eggs
2) Free flow hot drinks and orange juice all day
3) Most of the staff were relatively helpful

Bad things:
1) For 2 days, the water in both the tap and shower came out BROWN!!!
3) The stairs were so narrow it was really hard bringing the luggage up and down. We were staying on the 4th floor
2) Hotel is extremely old. Bed sank in the middle and you can feel the springs. Also very dusty.

Even if your expectations are low, I wouldn't stay here for more than 2 days. And only if there are no children with me.

The location of the hotel is excellent - right by a canal, you can easily walk to many of Amsterdam's best sights.

As said in many of the other reviews, the lobby (and the bar) are great, and give you a false idea of how unpleasant the rooms are. Although I did not have a problem with the cleanliness, the room was freezing - there was no heating whatsoever. The walls were paper thin too, so light sleepers should seek elsewhere. The staff seemed a bit clueless - they tried to charge me twice, and were quite rude until they looked through their records at my insistence - they were then apologetic.

Plus points apart from location are shower (very hot for all my time there) and the breakfast, though unexciting, was perfectly fine. Cleaning staff did a good job as far as I am concerned. But even at the relatively cheap price I would recommend you steer clear unless you can tolerate very cold and depressing rooms.

This hotel was TERRIBLE!!! We booked this hotel for four nights during our stay in Amsterdam. The room was dirty, there were no towels in the bathroom, the central heating was not working and the temperature in Amsterdam was below 0 degrees, there was no warm water in the bathroom and the TV had no reception. There was a piece of wooden board instead of a window and as there was moist on the ceiling they had placed a blanket there so that no water ran from the ceiling. It looked rather nice on the website but the reality was very different. Don't even think of staying there NEVER!!! The noise through the thin walls won't let you sleep and you will feel disgust to take a bath. STAY AWAY!!!!

DO NOT STAY AT REMBRANTPLEIN!

The rooms pictured on their website are not of the actual hotel!

The rooms and bathrooms are tiny and they stink!

The staff are completely incompetent. We were kept waiting for over twenty minutes while the guy tried to figure out how to work the computer system – he didn’t even know how to check us in!

When we were finally given the key, we had to haul our own luggage up the 6 narrow flights of stairs, only to discover that the room we had been given was not the room we had booked. We booked a twin and were given a single.

When we went back down the stairs to complain we were told “what do you expect – it’s a two star hotel”!!!

THE STAFF ARE THE RUDEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER MET!

I tried to reason with the incompetent guy at the front desk – but when he refused to give us the room we had booked and refused to give us a refund, I asked that he get the manager on the phone for me to speak to. The manager was even worse than the first guy and verbally abused and swore at me over the phone.

I would rather sleep on the street than stay in this hotel.

Dreadful hotel, and wouldn't recommend it to an enemy.
Our room was no. 8 on the 3rd floor, and was tiny and dirty. The bathroom was cramped; while sitting on the toilet you could have easily washed your hands in the sink on your lap, and washed your hair in the "shower".
Bearing in mind that we travelled in November, and the weather was cold and wet, we were supplied with a sheet (which was a single on the double bed) and what can only be described as an offcut from the curtains, to sleep under. The pillows were extremely lumpy, and when we asked reception for another for the following night, we were told that we couldn't as they had no spares, and were offered towels instead!
The website offered cable TV in rooms, but couldn't understand why ours wouldn't work; when we asked for some help at reception, we were told by the very honest man, that none of the televisions worked in the building, as the owner had not paid the cable bill!!!!
The last straw, which prompted us to leave, 2 nights early, was the visitor we had in the night which persistantly ate our food which was in the room, lending to our 2nd night without sleep. After looking for any entry holes, we found a very 'lived in' mouse hole going down into the floorboards.
The only up-side is the location, but not even that could liften our spirits after experiencing what we did in this grotty, dsgusting hotel.

We were to friends and our teenage daughters on a trip to A´dam for 4 days.
We had booked 3 nights at this hotel which was looking pretty nice on the webside.
We paid approx 120 euros per night for a double room and we had to change rooms
three times. First room (no 19 - don´t ever accept this room), there was no heating,
and there was fungus in the corner, the rooms seems like it had never been cleaned
proberly. Well we couldn´t stay there and asked for another room, we´ve got room
no. 6 and it was okay, but here we couldn´t turn the heating down and the windows was
hard to open. Anyway it was better than freezing. The last night we had to move again and this time we tried room no. 12 which was the room who another person on the side
has described in April this year. Can only tell you that nothing has changed in the 6 months and there is still wood instead of windows. Had to ask for towels all the time, had to buy our own soap and also asked them to buy a hairdryer for our room.
The staff was nice but very new (they said they had only been employed for 2 weeks.....)
