“Super Cool place!”
Reviewed August 25, 2012 via mobile

A place always very cheerful, young, party going late into the night, super cool.
All were very friendly and always ready to help.
A tip.: Before going to bed take ear plugs, this being free and you can pick up at the front desk!

I would for sure be back there!

Been to Amsterdam a good nine or ten times [love the culture of course] and this is THE place to be.
We cpuldn't stay here last year due to it being fully booked and boy did we miss it. This play has the most fanstastic location; you're in the heart of the city; close to restaurants, fast food, and there are a few coffeeshops right by it [from experience I'd recomment Lost in Amsterdam - no-ones heard of it and it beats all the overpriced touristy ones].

Bottles of becks at the bar are always 4 euros, but two-for-one, meaning you get a bottle for 2 euros - nowhere else in dam does that!

Chess, board games and card games in their cosy smoking room means you get to know everyone staying there, and if you're travelling, interrailing or just there on your own you meet the most amazing people.

At the end of the day it IS a budget hostel, so don't expect a chocolate on your pillow every night, but for what you pay it's amazing.
It's Amsterdam, why would anyone want to pay over the top prices for a 5 star hotel?

Visit Flying Pig Downtown, embrace the culture, make new friends for life, and you'll be back.

A group of us went to Amsterdam for a long weekend away. We decided on the Pig as it was right in the middle of where we wanted to be and (most importantly) pretty cheap. For what we paid we had a good, enjoyable experience there. Me and a fried booked earlier than the rest in our group and stayed in a private twin room on the top floor. Apart from lugging our bags up the thin, spindly stairs (before we realised there was a lift!) we didn't have a problem with our room at all; we had a fan, mini fridge and a TV. To be honest we only wanted the room as somewhere to put our heads down when we weren't exploring and this did the trick! Up on the top floor it was pretty quiet so we got a good nights sleep.

We got up one morning for the free breakfast and it was surprisingly good. If we were there for longer, or actually travelling it would have been a lot more worthwhile for us, however as we were there for a mini-break we found it more enjoyable to go out for breakfast.

The bar was always buzzing, both day and night. And the drinks deals that were on where great for us before we went out. Cheap drinks and good company are always a bonus! We weren't too bothered about the smoking room, but for those who are interested, it was cosy (full of cushions constantly!) and pretty full all of the time.

Everything we wanted to see was within walking distance and for everything that wasn’t; there was a bike hire shop just a 2 minute walk away from the hostel.

Overall the hostel was clean, in a central location and just right for what we wanted.

It's situated on a great spot in the city if you want to party and have a great time in Amsterdam. And I did! It's great to meet other fun travellers and the staff were very friendly too. The rooms were OK, I still slept well and security was very good. I loved how close it was to everything.

The flying pig was in a good location! It was a little hot in the rooms but in the middle of summer that was to be expected as most hostels had been like that. The room was tidy enough and provided lockers. We came home from a big night during our stay and found that the bar at the hostel was still partying. It was an awesome vibe and great fun.

Seen a good few bad reviews but what do you expect for that price? I stayed with a friend, we shared a double bed and it was okay, the sheets were clean, showers were okay, breakfast (which was included - nice suprise) was okay and great value for money. Central location, good atmosphere and great security. I felt very safe and was not worried about my belongings. At the end of the day te price reflects the hotel, it's great for young travellers and people wanting a cheap getaway. If you want something better book something more expensive.

My friend and I spent the first part of our Interailling in Amsterdam and stayed at this hostel. As this was the first hostel we had ever stayed in we were unsure of what to expect.

A filthy, stinky, rotten hole was not expected but was what was found.
Security was good in terms of our belongings and the hostel itself was centrally located and easy to find. These were the only good aspects.

The communal showers were a disgrace and the whole hostel had an overall stench of dead animal. The staff were unhelpul and didnt seem to have time for you, one was high all the time and another gave us wrong directions.

We booked here under the understanding that it had a very good reputation, where on earth this came from is beyond me! We understand that this is a hostel and not a hotel but the hostels we stayed in post Flying Pig just showed how awful it truly was.
