Owner description: Tucked away just off Spui, this delightful collection of houses arranged around an open court is well worth searching out.

One of the most beautiful hidden historic places in Amsterdam. Be sure not to miss this spot when visiting Amsterdam. When walking on the Kalverstraat you can enter this wonderful place via the "Schuttersgalerij" (a beautiful hallway with old paintings of the 17th century, part of the Amsterdam Museum but you can pass through it without paying any fee), be sure not to miss the beautiful armour on display on the side of the Amsterdam Museum from the Dutch War of Independence (Eighty Years' War) and you can leave the Begijnhof via the Spuiplein.

We almost missed the door when walking along the street full of big-brand stores. Inside is a quiet & neat courtyard, and an elegant church, totally different world from outside's bustle.

Make the effort to find this hidden jewel. Located close to Spui square (with some fantastic pubs), it's a haven of rest in the middle of Amsterdam.

What a wonderful place.
Not overwhelming and so much history.
The church inside was simply spectacular.
And the grounds were just as nice.
There is an area just for praying if you prefer.
A very nice place to view and stroll by while visiting Amsterdam.

The Begijnhof is a very special place. Completely cut off from Amsterdam’s busy life, you can enjoy a moment of rest and silence surrounded by beautiful houses overlooking a central, well kept garden. It’s worth a visit.
