Owner description: Tucked away just off Spui, this delightful collection of houses arranged around an open court is well worth searching out.

It only takes a few minutes to step inside and enjoy the beauty of this special place. It is also possible to enter the church. We felt a bit intrusive but a few residents were sitting outside and didn't seem to mind the tourists.

We went out for a walk to Begijnhof, which used to be a refuge for pious women. Maybe there are not so many pious women around these days, as these houses are now occupied by low-income female senior citizens. This is a rather odd tourist attraction, as it brings in loads of tourists, to what is effectively someone’s place of residence.
A pretty place to look round though, and it's free.
It's also close to The Amsterdam Museum, so you easily visit both of these attractions in an afternoon.

Stumble upon or seek out this incredibly preserved corner of Amsterdam and imagine the city in the 17th Century. Magical pause from the bustle of the shopping streets surrounding it, and hard to remember the modern city a block away while you're there.

Had looked up this place before heading to Amsterdam as it seemed a good place to visit, a real hidden jewel. So well hidden, we walked past it several times before we finally found the entrance behind a fairly anonymous wooden door off Spui Square. It was worth the wait: a tranquil oasis containing the oldest building in Amsterdam.
