Owner description: The Royal Palace Amsterdam is in use by the Dutch Royal House. Most of the year, the Royal Palace is alsof open for visitors. You are welcome to discover the rich history and interior of this magnificent building in the heart of Amsterdam. Visitors are welcome to discover the building's rich past and legacies left by it's successive occupants - as Amsterdam's Town Hall for 150 years, the French Royal and Imperial Palace for 5 years and the Palace of the House of Orange for the past two centuries. The Royal Palace was built in the seventeenth century as the Town Hall of Amsterdam, after a design by Jacob van Campen. It's paintings and sculptures were made by some of the most distinguished artists of the time and allude to the city's influence and prosperity in the Dutch Golden Age. In 1808 Louis Napoleon, brother of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, became King of Holland and converted the Town Hall into a Palace. The superb collection of Empire furniture, clocks and chandeliers date from that period. The collection of Empire furniture is one of the best preserved and most complete collections in the world. The rooms in the Palace are decorated with artworks from the collection of the House of Orange-Nassau Historic Collections Trust. Many paintings show the various members of the family of Orange-Nassau

Situated right on the center of the city on Dam square it may not grab your attention from the exterior beauty but inside is a different story altogether. The rooms are high ornate and appear to be polished to perfection and would definitely grab eyeballs no matter where you look. Fortunately the audio tour is really synchronized and informative and lending information on almost everything. The place is not extensive and you could finish with the tour in matter of an hour since only certain areas are open. The palace in itself is open to public on certain days so you might want to check on the timings while planning to visit.

the building looks so majestic and huge thought I would be here for a few good hours, nothing to see just a few rooms all on one floor in and out in 30 minutes flat very deceiving not worth 10 euros at all

the royal palace is an absolute must-see! the dull-seeming palace from outside promises very luxurious sights inside! feast your eyes with beautiful furniture, chandeliers and art work. the complementary audio guides (available in several languages) makes this luxurious experience even better!

Audio tour made this visit worthwhile. Enjoyed the references to the building's use during different regimes. Well present rooms with furnishings.

The famous Royal Palace is located right in the heart of Amsterdam. Situated right on Dam Square, the building stands as an elegant achievement. Beautiful decorations adorn the outside while gold trim highlights are found dotted throughout. In front of the palace, the square is sprinkled with pigeons milling about. Trams 4, 9, 16 and 24 drop you off right in front so transportation is very convenient. A truly historical place in Amsterdam history.
