Owner description: The Royal Palace Amsterdam is in use by the Dutch Royal House. Most of the year, the Royal Palace is alsof open for visitors. You are welcome to discover the rich history and interior of this magnificent building in the heart of Amsterdam. Visitors are welcome to discover the building's rich past and legacies left by it's successive occupants - as Amsterdam's Town Hall for 150 years, the French Royal and Imperial Palace for 5 years and the Palace of the House of Orange for the past two centuries. The Royal Palace was built in the seventeenth century as the Town Hall of Amsterdam, after a design by Jacob van Campen. It's paintings and sculptures were made by some of the most distinguished artists of the time and allude to the city's influence and prosperity in the Dutch Golden Age. In 1808 Louis Napoleon, brother of the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte, became King of Holland and converted the Town Hall into a Palace. The superb collection of Empire furniture, clocks and chandeliers date from that period. The collection of Empire furniture is one of the best preserved and most complete collections in the world. The rooms in the Palace are decorated with artworks from the collection of the House of Orange-Nassau Historic Collections Trust. Many paintings show the various members of the family of Orange-Nassau

One of the pictorial choices you can make when you visit Amsterdam.
The beautiful building with a lot of doves all around you is so nice and relaxing.
Madame Tussaud's Museum is also beside this place and you can go there as well to visit the your favorite celebrity wax statue.
it's also good to bring extra money because the place is surrounded of shopping boutiques & galleries and for sure you'll end up shopping too.

Enjoyed our visit, it certainly isn't as impressive as other palaces throughout Europe, even 'working' ones such as Buckingham Palace etc, but the Queen of the Netherlands doesn't use this as her official residence chosing to live closer to the Hague, this is just used for official functions etc

The palace doesn't look very spectacular from the outside but is much more impressive inside! I am glad to have had a look around the royal palace but wouldn't say it would be a great miss if you didn't see it

the palace was filled with over 50's and seeing as we are a young couple we stood out a bit but it was worth a look! very grand rooms and lots of history - we enjoyed it!

Looking at the Royal Palace from the Dam square makes you think that this palace is somewhat neglected. (Its external walls could use a serious clean up).
Going inside is a completely different story.
The interior of the palace is beautiful and dignified, decorated with lots of French style good taste, but not so “glorified” as you can see in Paris, it is more “quiet” to the eye, and therefore to my taste it looked nicer.
It takes about 2 hours to cover its entire rooms and arts, and its worth every minute of it.
Definitely a must see in Amsterdam.
