“The best hotel in Amsterdam!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2014

This is such an amazing hotel! Great design, great location, the common areas are amazing!
It is in the old music conservatorium from Amsterdam and the mix between the old and new is absolutely gorgeous.
Has small little designer shops, an amazingly tasty breakfast and the spa and gym is to die for!
The service is superb and all the staff goes the extra mile to make you feel at home and welcomed.
All in all, an amazing experience all together! Really recommend it!

Room Tip: If travelling without children, go for the Superior Duplex Guest Room. Great value for the money!

The Conservatorium is a large centrally located former bank and music conservatory that has been converted into a luxury contemporary hotel. It is excellently located to all three of Amsterdams best and most well known museums..in fact, within easy walking distance...The Rijks, the Van Gogh, the Stedelijk.

The service-from doorman to reception desk to concierge-are extremely welcoming and helpful.

The Junior Suite on the top floor is like a medium size studio, repleat with old structural beams angling across the ceiling and floor. The automated shades work to shield the abundance of light at night. The bathroom is large, comfortable and very well equipped with lots of amenities.
The rooms are individually controlled and the AC is a welcome relief to the often warm and humid temperature outdoors. ( Although the common areas, like the hallways, are sweltering. They need to figure out how to fix this. ) The beds are comfy!

Their Brasserie has delicious croquettes..a dish made popular in the Netherlands. The breakfasts were disappointing.

The concierge hit it three times with his restaurant suggestions. Use him! Except make sure you confirm any cancellations of activities that you sign up for or you will be charged!

The trolleys are easy to take and right outside the hotel. We took it a few times to the town center-Old Town-and to the canal areas, as it rained the four days we were there.

Speaking of weather, beware. Holland is known for its' wet weather and it lived up to its reputation in May. Come prepared and leave the hotel prepared!

Would highly recommend the Conservatorium!

Dear guest,

We are very pleased to receive your encouraging and detailed description of your experience at the Conservatorium Hotel, and kindly thank you for recommending our hotel to other travelers. I am happy to know that you have had such an enjoyable stay despites the dreary weather. I just wish you could see Amsterdam these days, now that summer has really started and everyone is enjoying the sun on the lovely terraces and urban beaches. Hopefully you will be able to experience this side of Amsterdam on a future stay. We would be more than happy to welcome you back.

Such an amazing, beautiful, perfectly located hotel (FYI we took public transport there (airport then train to Amsterdam Zuid, tram 5 towards Centraal, getting off at the Van barlestraat stop right outside the hotel, all in all about 40 mins) and taxi back (about 25-30 mins); it was once a music institute and the high ceilings and (occasionally musical-themed) decor are a nod to its past.

The museum district location was just fantastic, a couple of minutes away from the Rijksmuseum, modern art and Van Gogh museums, the vondelpark and the Concertgebouw. Within a five minute walk, you're by the canal, in 10-15 you're in the Jordaan.

We were able to make use of the 3-for-2 special room offer when booking the trip. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. The food in the brasserie (we didn't eat in the main restaurant,) and tunes bar (the sushi was some of the best I've ever tasted) was absolutely wonderful. As for the cocktails - wow! As a lover of gin (and I like to think I'm someone who knows a thing or two about the plethora available), even I was bewildered by the sheer choice and rarity of some of their offering, which was an absolute delight!

We stayed in a deluxe room - the vaulted ceilings, view of the Rijsmuseum, the walk-in shower (we'd have liked a bath, but the shower was more than adequate) the enormous bed - all fantastic. We've stayed in 5 star hotels before, but I can honestly say, this was the best we've ever stayed in.

All in all I'd highly recommend a stay here. If you want to be away from the 'action' of central Amsterdam (but near enough to dabble) but primarily if you want to be slap bang in the middle of the museums and shopping on offer, then this is the hotel for you.

PS if, like me, you love seafood, two minutes away from the hotel is 'the seafood bar' - very reasonably priced (compared to London) and excellent food, wine and service.

I stayed here for three nights in mid-July in a duplex room and really liked it. The hotel is a very creatively transformed music conservatory. The public spaces are quite impressive indeed. The lobby seems like it used to be an outside courtyard and has been converted into an indoor space (though the greenhouse element of the design sometimes made it feel a tad warm). My room was nicely designed, though definitely on the modern-minimalist side of things. Some elements are just a bit too clever, like bedside reading lamps that required instructions on how to turn them on and off -- and I still couldn't figure it out! What ever happened to on/off switches? I should not have to call reception to figure out to turn off a light when going to bed. The location is also great, especially if you are in Amsterdam to visit the major museums, all of which are just feet away. All in all, I liked the Conservatorium and would happily stay again.

My boyfriend and I just arrived home from a trip to several countries around Europe and the Conservatorium was the perfect way to end our trip! Having stayed in many luxury hotels during our previous traveling I can confidently say that this hotel ranks in the top 3 from around the world! From the moment we drove up to the hotel (which looks more like a museum!) we were given the most wonderful service and felt like celebrities the whole time.
Upon check-in we requested that our duplex room preferable not face the lobby since in our 2 previous hotels we had been facing the lobby and were anxious to have some sort of outdoor view. The receptionist was more than understanding and said that while there were no duplex rooms available with outdoor views, she would be happy to upgrade us to the next level of room with a lovely private tree view out to one of the quiet side streets beside the hotel. She then proceeded to show us up to the room herself and explain how all of the different amenities in the room work (lots of fancy modern technology!). There was also an entire bowl of fresh fruit and mineral water waiting for us which was the perfect touch after a morning full of travel and plane food.
We made good use of the BEAUTIFUL spa downstairs. After a day of sight seeing a hot sauna, whirlpool, and swim are just what the doctor ordered. We could have also booked different therapies, however, we found them quite pricey and were just as happy to enjoy the different water baths and steam rooms.
The location of the hotel is PERFECT especially for museum enthusiasts. There is also a grocery store half a block away which was ideal for us since we would frequently pick up some snacks, bread, and cheese and head to one of of the beautiful green areas in the city and have a picnic lunch or breakfast.
All in all, it was a truly memorable stay to finish off our wonderful trip. We have already made plans to come back and enjoy the wonderful hotel and city soon!

My wife and I really enjoyed our short stay. As hoteliers we always look at hotels a little different, but we can recommend it highly.
Super location, a symphathetic renovation and utilisation of a building that no doubt came with many caveats to protect the heritage values.
our welcome was tremendous by a very switched on doorman, who made us feel welcome from the very first second.
we loved the concierge services, who organised access to the museums we wanted to see and the fabulous bikes we used to get around with.
the lobby is nice and busy, which gives the hotel a very good vibe.

Next vist to Amsterdam (LOVE that city!!) we will stay much longer.

Room Tip: If you have the budget, go for a higher level room, you'll have a bit more space

From a distance you might believe you are approaching another Museum in the district by the same name, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Don't be fooled. Suddenly, you come across a multi-story glass structure, and the vibe has changed. This is no Museum, but a hip, cool hotel, light filled, with friendly, helpful staff and a lobby filled with beautiful people. My wife and I stayed at the Conservatorium in Amsterdam for four days. The hotel is in the museum district, close to the must see Van Gogh Museum. and not far from everything there is to see in this friendly city. The staff could not have been more helpful. Our corner room, 330, was large, modern and spacious. The gym, was the best I have ever used in any hotel. The spa and restaurants in the hotel were superb as well. What made the Conservatorium so special however, was the friendly, courteous and professional vibe its entire staff emitted. They proved that a hotel can be both hip and modern, while catering to the discerning tastes of the well heeled... Cheers to the Conservatorium!

Room Tip: choose a corner room suite.
