“Visiting the Conservatorium hotel in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 29, 2013

We stayed in December in the Conservatorium hotel and it was just great. The lobby with its eclectic choice of design furniture of all denominations, the high ceilings, the Jerusalem stone around the elevators and the enormous fabulous Xmas tree filled with candy canes and what seems like a million little gingerbread man, it all brings out a festive Xmas spirit that is not over the top like in other places, but elegant. While we were staying we got a tour of the property from peter the host, he really knows the place and can make the old bank building / music school come alive with his entertaining stories. We also spent one day in the spa where we had a great massage, a workout and also they arranged after the massage a private Jacuzzi for us in the couples room. All in all the best hotel of Amsterdam, and also the location is great next to the major tram lines, within a walk to the canals.

Stayed twice during the Christmas holidays. First time, experienced the truly wonderful. Van Baerle suite (room 508). Highly recommend it. One of the best hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. I also looked at the Conservatorium suite (not worth it) and the royal duplex (nice but not quite as good as the Van Baerle). Service is good, the spa and gym wonderful. The lobby restaurant is the only down part of the experience: cramped tables, surly service and mediocre food. It is not helped by the fact that the lobby is overrun by local trendies who also want to get a piece of this nice hotel and hang out for coffee, etc. Overall though, for me this is the best in Amsterdam and I have tried most others.

Wonderfull hotel with excellent guest service. Check in very professional and proactive. Lovely staff who are always willing to help you with any inquiries you might have. Breakfast is very good, lots of choise. Coffee and tea are served at the table which I appreciate very much, but is not very common anymore in most hotels...
Location is very convenient with the shopping disctrict around the corner and all the fabulous sights the city has to offer within easy walking distance. This hotel is the best I have stayed in so far in Amsterdam and for sure I will come back soon!

Have just stayed six nights at the hotel. Entirely wonderful experience. I always chose hotels that have an emphasis on design excellence and I was very impressed. The location is perfect for museum lovers and actually for all of Amsterdam. The Spa is fabulous (I defy anyone to name a more elegant and visually attractive setting). In summary, I was hoping for an eight but got a ten (or more accurately, a "Spinal Tap" eleven). Kudos to the staff.

Room Tip: I stayed on the third floor (rooms 310 and 312 for my two stays) and I was very, very happy with the...

Modern architecture and peaceful atmosphere. However, my suite was downgraded with no clear explanation. Also, the breakfast was lousy. The personnel were nice and pretty. I have to admit I was expecting more.

We came here at the end of January during the dead of winter and were so grateful to have refuge in this amazing hotel. It's impeccably designed, a nice mix of modern and old. The restaurant downstairs is delicious; make sure you eat there. The staff is great; the service is excellent. The spa is also nice; the massages were pleasant. The hotel even has a meditation room, you can't beat that!

The hotel is half a block away from the Stedelijk Museum which is a real treat -- I love that museum!

Unfortunately, I can't say much else about what is around there because we loved the room so much we didn't leave the room during our stay except to go to Stedelijk and go out to dinner one night. It was just too cold to enjoy anything, but we loved the hotel.

I visisted Akasha, the holistic gym and spa of the Conservatorium hotel, after a stressy day and it was amazing. After you've entered the spa, you have no idea you are in the middle of the busy city of Amsterdam and you completely forget all your worries. It has a luxery feeling and the staff is super friendly. They have a bubble bath, a sauna, a hammam and a swimming pool. If you want, you can get one of their treatments. Unfortunately I did not have time to treat myself to that, but I will defenitely do that next time.

In between relaxing in the pool or the sauna, you can have a nice cup of tea and eat the healthy snacks that they have put out for you to enjou.

Defenitely go when you have the time!
