This hotel is wonderfully located in the centre of Amsterdam. It is an ideal hotel to stay. I visited Amsterdam for a business meeting for Graphic Designers and extended my stay due to the high level of room comfort and its location.

Room Tip: I had a room facing the canal. The view is beautiful. I can imagine the summer months a nice breeze...

The outside of the hotel currently looks horrendous - it's boarded up, there's graffiti, building works - not a great start. Staff were friendly but nothing spectacular. The room and en suite bathroom were both clean but very small - couldn't move around in the bathroom at all. Most depressing was the awful smell in the entrance hall which never seemed to fade and was like cat's wee, and the breakfast, which consisted of mouldy bread and disgusting ham. The best thing was the location. Don't stay here, you can get something much better for your money.

the hotel is under renovation for a new reception area and dining area
the breakfast was not to its usual standard , but that is understandable due to the work been carried out
unfotunately when cuatomers arrive they get a bad impression because they are unaware of the renevation been carried out
so when they book on line , the place is not the same as advertised
hopefully the work will be completed by march

My husband and I stayed at Hotel King in January of 2013. From the moment we walked in the door, we received the best service. The hotel is small, and so is the staff that works there but after a few days you feel like they know you well and they looked after us well enough. We looked forward to unwinding in the hotel after a long day of sightseeing. I cannot compliment the staff, service or hotel enough. I will add for those of you who have to run each day like my husband took a run around Vondel Park, and he said he wished he would have done that every day as that park is across the hotel and a great place to stretch out. The hotel is also very close to all the attractions the city has to offer specially the Leidseplein. I can say we booked our hotels in Paris and London and we can't wait to go back to King and Amsterdam soon.

Actually thought my husband was joking when he announced that we were here, looks like a derelict building, its all boarded up and gives a terrible first impression. Doesnt actually look like a hotel at all, i've seen much better hostels around Amsterdam than this place.

Once in, your greeted directly with very steep stairs with dangerous badly fitting carpet and doom and gloom. There is no reception just a makeshift shelf in a very narrow hallway with a bell, it still wasn't apparent that we were in a hotel and I was hoping we were in the wrong place. A lady appeared who was very pleasant, but we were pushed and shoved whilst other guests tried to squeeze past us and our checking in experience.

We had booked 3 rooms and all were pretty grim although I must say clean, apart from the paint all over the ill fitting curtains. The beds were uncomfortably soft, very small and had mismatched bedding, but again clean. Very poky rooms with no views and wafer thin walls, I could here EVERYTHING that was going on next door.

I would never stay here again and would advise paying a little extra, as have stayed in some lovely 3 star hotels in Amsterdam for not much more.
