The location of this hotel is perfect such that you can pretty much walk anywhere in the city of Amsterdam within 20 minutes. It is also well connected by tram and bus if you need to go further distances.

Rooms are small but well equipped with tea coffee maker and hair dryer. This hotel also has elevators which is perfect if you need to carry a large bag, since most hotels in Europe are in old homes and dont have this basic feature.

They charge you a 20 euro key deposit since they have a special kind of key for the front door and rooms.

Reception staff is neither friendly nor every knowledgeable about the area so best to do your own research.

Its all about the location!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a private bathroom..Its far better value.

My partner and I stayed here for a long weekend and were really pleased with the place. We had an early flight to Amsterdam so arrived in the hotel lobby at 11am. Check in wasn't until 3pm but the hotel staff went out of their way to provide us with a room on check in. The hotel is around the corner from popular Leinspein Sq (great for eateries and bars) and two roads away is one of the largest parks in Amsterdam. It is a fantastic location within walking distance of Dam Sq (20 minutes) and Central train Station (30-35 minutes), although there's regular trams and buses from Leinspein sq if you prefer public transport.

This hotel is very competitively priced and offers free wifi. The breakfast was really good (continental) with a choice of cold meats, cheese, spreads, bread, cereals, fruit, boiled eggs, filter coffee, tea and orange juice. The staff were also very friendly.

The room was clean, tidy and quiet - perfect for us. My only small complaint was the bed. It didn't feel like a mattress but more like a piece of foam and with two of us in the bed it wasn't completely comfortable. That said, after a few beers you don't notice it as much!

As the previous person said, don't believe all you read on here about this hotel!

Firstly - GET THE BUS!! The 197 is a two minute walk from the airport terminal and a 2 minute walk from the last stop (Leidesplein) to the hotel. It takes about 35 minutes but if you were like us and needed to leave the bags in the hotel (they charge 3 euro for baggage storage) then the 197 is the best bet rather than taking the tram back up to Central Station. The bus costs 4 euro and took about 35 minutes.

We got to the hotel really early and was allowed to leave the bags until the room was ready and we went to the Heineken experience in the meantime (10 minute walk away). The room (no. 11) was at the back and a fairly large room (based on the comments from TripAdvisor). It was clean but basic. We have both travelled all over the world and this was not the best hotel room ever in comparison but it was clean, central, quiet and all that was required for a 2 night stay. The bed wasn't too comfortable but we were so tired from walking all over Amsterdam we didn't really care! There was lots to eat at breakfast - boiled eggs, ham, cheese, fruit bread, cereals, yogurt, etc. and good coffee. They are strict about brerakfast times though so don't arrive at 0925 hoping to be able to stay for very long.

I would recommend this hotel to any friends thinking of visiting this lovely city! BTW there is a restaurant around the corner in what looks like an old theatre. They do really good Eggs Benedict if you don't manage to get up for the breakfast in the King Hotel!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter - we had room 11.

We have stay 2 nights in the King Hotel ( 3 rooms)from 5 to7 oct.
Some note: the reception is lamentable. It is necessary to pay without seeing the room, to give a guarantie for the key (20 e) , to pay to keep the bags a few hours
In conclusion, the hotel is not recommend

Positives:
Good location (Close to Museums/ Melkweg / Shops / Amenities)
Canal view
Clean bathroom/ Room
Extra clean towels when requested.
Lift available
Quiet hotel generally.

Negatives:
Port-a-loo outside hotel, by canal (spoils the view somewhat!)
Early morning drilling from nextdoor.
No Information from staff / Lack of Customer Service on arrival (and departure)
On arrival, the room's Safe nearly out of battery life (although batteries provided on request)
Double bed was in fact twin beds
Dark, slightly grim inside hotel.

I would recommend you spend a little bit extra money on an alternative hotel, and you will receive much better deal overall.
