We arrived at the hotel, and as soon as we entered the hostel it stank and was grimy. The receptionist was rude, and kept us waitng, before informing us we would have to wait to check in, even though we were told we could do this anytime after 12. Well 3 hours later we got to our room....
and this after being charged way over what we were told we would have to, like £60 over!

It was so bad, that i took one look and burst into tears.

Dirty, Cramped, Hot, neon lighting, graffit, smashed furniture.....

and worst of all...a toal strange man in our room.

Now we were aware that this may happen and had payed extra to ensure we had the room to ourselves, but the hotel were unhelpful and refused to move the man or refund our extra money!

Mayb it still wouldnt have been so bad but the man kept trying to talk to me, staring at me, and when we went for a walk and came back he was sitting on our friend we had left behinds bed, watching him sleep....

Unsafe to say the least, maybe he was a nice guy, maybe not....the point is the hoselt should never have put us in that position, especially as we paid more to avoid it!!

Despite argeing over this, we felt we had paid under false info, no refund.

We moved hotel just around the corner (Hotel la bonheme) and had a lovely time!

Also it was gay pride when we went (accidentally, we dnt no when booking) sooooo uch fun =]

We stayed in this hostel for one night while visiting a nephew in Amsterdam. As this is a hostel, the facilities are basic but they are very well kept. Bed rooms are tidy and clean as are the toilets and showers. Also the common room is cosy and well kept. Breakfast is not included but can be bought at a reasonable price. As usual with hostels, a deposit is asked for key and locker. Sheets are included (which is nice).

The hostel is central located which makes it very easy to get to. You also get a code so that you can enter late. Normally I am not too fund of hostels, but this one was quite ok and I could imagine have stayed here for an extra night.

Not much water coming out the showers and hairs from the showeree before but otherwise, pretty clean, no bugs, nice staff and great location. Funny little detail, being that the house is pretty narrow, the first set of stairs is rather cozy. And steep. Metal stairs from hell. But we had fun trying to climb them after an afternoon through the nicest coffee shops. ;-)

I went to Amsterdam for a few days with a few of my friends. This hostel was a great choice. It was cheap, in a fantastic location, basically walking distance to everything and nearby tram stop, and the staff was friendly. The rooms are very basic, have beds, a wall light, and wooden lockers. The room, showers and bathrooms were clean. Like all the other reviews state, the bathroom is very small, but who goes to Amsterdam to sit in a bathroom. One downside was the walls are very thin, so if your neighbors are noisy it can be annoying. The stairs leading up to the reception area are hilariously steep, but not all that bad. About a 3-5 min walk to Leidseplein. Overall, its perfect for college students or young people not looking to spend an exorbitant amount of money on a hotel.

The room was really basic, 4 walls, 4 beds and a neon light, and the window wouldn't close properly, so that cold air came in.

They only put the heating on during the night, so during day time it's quite chilly.

The bathroom was so small, that when you sat on the toilet seat, you hit the door with your knees.

And worst of all, we had a mouse in the room! We left some food on the floor and while we were sleeping, we heard some noise, like somebody was playing with a plastic bag. When we woke up, we saw the bread had a hole in it and no one said they did the noise, so it was certainly a mouse, since there was also a hole in the wall.

Don't ever go there!!!

Great place, very cheap.Clean rooms, friendly staff, good location it's down a quiet pretty side street but within easy reach of busy square and trams.Stayed in a four bed room with two friends all female. We did have to share with a guy but did'nt find it to be a problem, agree with a previous review that mentioned changing rooms,it was easier for us,one would watch the door while the other two changed. The lounge was a great place to meet the other people staying there, relaxed place felt very safe.Staff friendly and helpful, would'nt stay anywhere else after being here.Don't go expecting luxury after all what do you expect for the price, yes the place could do with a lick of paint but who looks at the walls, the friendly atmosphere in this place more than makes up for any shabby looking deco, went expecting much worse for the price we paid, worked out at about £14 per night, we were really surprised at how good this place was .Look out for the first flight of stairs, they are steep.
Amsterdam,a beautiful city, laid back easy to find your way about and friendly helpful people willing to offer advice and directions, loved it.Great place for a short break or longer,so much to see and do,can't wait to visit again.

I stayed here as a single female traveler for 3 nights. Since there are only mixed dorm rooms with 4 beds each at IBH, I was in a room with three guys during my entire stay. They were all nice and friendly, and I never felt unsafe, but there was a problem with finding a place to change clothes - the shower room is always wet and also has 4 sinks in it, so there's no privacy there, and the toilet rooms are extremely tiny. The hostel should consider adding a couple of "changing rooms" for those people who don't want to undress in front of strangers.

Otherwise, the location is stellar, the staff was very accommodating, and the beds were comfortable. Breakfast is very good, too, and the lounge is a very comfortable place to relax and watch TV. I would stay here again if I was traveling with a companion and we could get a room to ourselves.
