room: we stayed 5 days in a 14 bed dorm with 12 people. not too much space but ok! some people were smelling like *** and we had to fight for an open window but that's a backpackers life isn't it?! they clean rooms and bathrooms every day so it was always clean. we even had 2 bathrooms which was great for so many people!

security: my friend and me (2 girls) arrived there late night and felt instantly secure even if the hostel is in the middle of the red light district. lots of cameras and security staff, which we found very important in a city like amsterdam.

location: perfect location for whatever you're up to in amsterdam! clubs, coffeeshops, restaurants, shopping streets and the central station in walking distance! coffeeshop and restaurant/bar in the same building which is nice when you had a bit too much of whatever...;-)

we had a good time there, met lot of cool people and i can only recommend this hostel!

Great affordable hostel. I stayed in one of the dorms. It had its own toilet and shower which at first seemed like a bonus however it got a bit awkward at night when we could all hear everyone's toilet activities, however there was a communal bathroom on the floor that I wound up using so no harm done. The location was great, although its in the middle of the red light district so a few of my companions were uncomfortable about the proximity to sex workers but one should expect this in the heart of Amsterdam! The social aspect of the hostel is great, we hung out with a few people from our room who were very friendly. There's a restaurant in the hostel and a coffee shop owned by the hostel next door that makes socialising easy. If going to the coffee shop I recommend the space cakes, a bit expensive (7 euro) but yummy and good for those of us who wanted the full Amsterdam experience without smoking :)

We arrived in the morning so we had to leave our luggages in the luggage room and come back later. This room was not camera assisted so we got a bit worried but we found the luggages safely there fortunately.. The receptionist was ok, but she needed to keep proof of identity.. The rooms are beautifully set and clean, the bathroom was also decent.. The only thing that distubed us are some noises which we figured out what they were exactly perhaps from other rooms or the bathroom.. It is centrally located so it is easy to get around :) It has also a 24/hr built in coffeshop.... You have breakfast included which is ok. Would recommend this place if you're travelling with friends and looking for a cheap place to stay.

Thanks for your feedback... just put you at ease our luggage rooms are always on camera and recorded for security. Not sure what these noises you heard were but in this land of liberty anything is possible and as we say "The Bulldog Hostel: Nothing is normal, everything is comfortable".

Hopefully we will see you again soon!

I went for queensday the hostel was okay. BUT the girl with short hair that worked in front desk, was extremely rude in the check in and also when i asked for some information. The location was excellent! and the other recepctionist helpful and always smiling, just try to avoid the girl with short hair!!!

Outstanding value for money, very clean, staff incredibly helpful regardless of guests nationality. Very comfortable surroundings, ideally situated in the Red Light District. The breakfast was different to the usual 'English Breakfast' however the quality was very good and you can help yourself. There was tea, coffee, orange juice, jordan's cereals. brown and white bread, cheeses and meats, jams and boiled eggs. They provide a toaster machine for making toast, or ham and cheese toasties. The music throughout the day was well chosen with mellow music, Bob Marley genre in the mornings to ease you into the day and this progressively got bouncer throughout the day and very upbeat by evening. The rooms where an ample size and very well maintained. The only downfall (as such) was the hot water was really really really HOT!! Definately recommend the hostel as well as the Bulldog cafes and Shops as all where filled with helpful staff and prices of outstanding value.

Room Tip: We had a room for 3, was number 7. Was quiet, comfortable and clean. We always sleep well'...

We had 2 apartments for 4 nights; 1 for the girls and 1 for the boys. They were both clean, nice and comfy. Ours was plain and modern whilst the boy's was up in the attic and more funky. We had very clean towels and sheets in our apartment and could go down for breakfast at the hotel which is a couple of steps away. The only thing that bothered us girls was the one and only small mirror that we had in the bathroom. (The boys had also a long mirror though!!!) The toilet was also very small and with no ventilation :( Location is perfect though, right in the middle of everything and everything else was just great. I would definitely recommend these apartments for any group of more than 3ppl.
