Stayed twice in Amsterdam in September 2012. Rooms are as advertised, small rooms are small, larger rooms are comfortably large. Windows on the back overlook the back yard of trees and small patio, front are street view, the back views being a little more pastoral, front fairly ordinary.
The rooms were quiet, functional, though the small single rooms are so small there is barely room for luggage. Washrooms are quite small as well, but again, clean and functional. The hotel on the inside looks a little scuffed and bumped on the walls, and the carpets are a little old in the hallways, but again, the rooms were clean, and importantly, I found the beds comfortable.
The hotel itself is fairly close to the City Hall, and a twenty minute walk from central station. It is close to the Zoo and museums, canals and shopping. It is about ten minutes to walk to the Dam and old Palace. The hotel is on a tramway line that goes directly to the Central Train Station.
The staff were helpful and the hotel was always quiet. Double doors were added to rooms in high traffic areas (I stayed in one and heard not a sound from the hallway, and I am typically a very light sleeper).
I will likely stay at the Hotel Rembrandt again.
