I booked this hotel for a pre-river cruise stay. We stayed two nights. Two couples in two rooms and from the start the hotel staff was accommodating.
One couple appreciated a ground floor room and the hotel staff was quick to reserve the one room available for them. It was narrow but had all good space for a short stay. All rooms, and the hotel, were very clean and well stocked.
We, the other party had a room, down a steep flight of stairs. Tho' our room was basement level we had a walk out back door into the garden. The room was narrow but comfortable and the bathroom was not small and well equipped.
This hotel is well located within a short walk to a wonderful cheese shop (around the corner after you turn right out the door) and local coffee shops and restaurants. You feel you are in the locals Amsterdam and can easily walk to wonderful options. Trolley #2 is just outside and that takes you to all the major sites.
Lastly, the staff is WONDERFUL. They are so helpful in answering your every inquiry.
Highly recommend this hotel for a locally owned and quality stay.

The hotel is situated in a great area of Amsterdam that is considered to be quite posh, however it is a little further away from where all of the nightlife is. We liked this. Having said that, the hotel is very close to Vondelpark, a wonderful park and the main museums. It is also quite close to a tram stop that will get you into the centre of town quite easily. Our room was quite comfortable and very clean, however decor is looking a bit tired. Bathroom was also very clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful, they would help us organise activities and knew how to hook us up with good deals. Just be aware that there is no lift in this hotel and the stairs are very steep so not great for people who have walking disabilities. Free wi-fi provided, breakfast buffet fairly standard.

The hotel is a nice 3 star family place, with spacious rooms and comfortable beds. Avoid the taxis, if you are arriving by train and just take tram 2 from the Central Station (buy your ticket in side at € 2,60 pp) and take 3rd stop after Van Gogh. The hotel staff and especially the hotel manager are very friendly, but the 127 euro per night + taxes seems to be too overpriced, even if it is inclusive breakfast and Wi-Fi.

Hotel Zandbergen is a typical European 2 star hotel. My room was very small and dated, although clean. I had a room on the 2nd floor in the front, so street noise was a big problem during the day, but it was not an issue in the evening when trying to sleep. The breakfast buffet was basic with no hot items.

The hotel has a great location, away from the crowds in the city center but conveniently located a half block form the #2 tram. I really like the neighborhood area, which is charmingly residential with lots of nice restaurants, bars and shops. The staff is very nice and attentive. Wifi reception in the room was available 100% of the time, although I would occasionally experience some slowdowns. For the price I paid, the hotel is a good value compared to other hotels in the area.

Very basic.
Served its purpose of being a clean, warm, safe place with easy access to public transportation (Tram #2). A fifteen to 20 minute walk to the Van Gogh Museum, and across the street from a very nice park (which we did not visit - too cold and rainy). By all appearances it is in a nice area of Amsterdam. However, not the hotel for those in search of luxury. Not the hotel for those with cardiac conditions or who may be out of shape, either. After a steep trek up two winding staircases carrying heavy luggage, we were placed in a very small room, with plastic bedside tables and virtually no amenities. Breakfast was basic, as well.
As mentioned in other reviews, the staff was helpful and courteous.

Room Tip: If you cannot walk up two steep flights carrying 20lb or more, then find a different hotel.
