My and my boyf stayed here in 2011 and I'm planning on booking again (we're in our 30's).

I have been to Amsterdam MANY times and stayed in a range of accommodation types. This is NOT a hotel, it's just that they class their accommodation slightly differently to UK/USA etc, it is more like a hostel but with private room and bathroom.

It is noisey as it's in a central location with vibrant nightlife, but it didn't case us a problem. If you're a light sleeper then take some ear plugs! The TV in the room didn't work and the bathroom is an oversized toilet with a plumbed shower head attached to the wall (quite typical in many parts of Europe). The bathroom didn't smell great and the water level rose to almost flooding point when showering, but the point is it didn't flood and the shower served it's purpose, the drainage was just slow. The staff were friendly and helpful, there is a bar and breakfast room on site.

As many other reviews have stated, it is tatty and the decor is not up to much, but more important for me is the price and location. The room and bathroom were both clean and we really spent very little time inside.

Admittedly if I had more money I would probably opt for something a little classier, but in truth my personal opinion is that the increase in quality of the 4/5 star hotels (real hotels) in Amsterdam is not consistent with the vast increase in price. In other words I would rather rough it a bit at the Leidesplein hotel and have the extra cash to spend whilst I'm out and about in Amsterdam.

I would NOT recommend this hotel to 50 somethings wanting to celebrate a romantic wedding anniversary, for business men looking for the luxury trappings of a modern technologically advanced world, or for families with young children. However I WOULD DEFINITELY recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a really cheap place to sleep in an absolutely PERFECT Amsterdam city centre location

This 'hotel' is more of a hostel than a hotel. The only good thing is the location. When we arrived the receptionist practically grunted and thre us the keys - we went shown to our room & had 2 hunt for it. The room was dirty, smelly noisy & riddled with fleas & bedbugs. It handnt been cleaned since the last visitors. The curtains were hanging off, Nets were absolutly filthy brown colour, windows didnt work - Only one opened and the others were open a fraction and we couldnt shut them. The bedside table was full of rubbish as were the wardrobes, The bed sheets were viel. The towels were about as old as the 70's dated decor. Shower was filthy i felt more dirty when i came out. We didnt sleep in the beds just slept on top of them. I had to lay towels down on the floor as i was scared to walk on the carpets. we raided the cleaners cupboard 2 find clean sheets/towels but they were all as dirty as the ones we were supplied with. We also was not told the hotel was above a NIGHTCLUB!!! If it wasnt for the weed we would not have slept at all!! And for some twatish reason the whole street dicided to empty its glass bins at 5 in the morning - EVERY morning! Worst hotel i have every stayed in. the only people i reccomend this to is to the homeless.

The only good thing about this so-called hotel is its location. Otherwise everything's much more worse than descriped on the website: rooms are worn out, carpet full of burn marks, bathroom is leaky and wi-fi isn't working at all.

Having read all the reviews my wife and i knew what to expect - a basic hotel in a great location. This does not change and i reinforce the sentiment, however.... I can put up with the basic nature (as it really is just a stopping point) and the room/hotel certainly fits the bill. The decor reasonably clean and bland with a tv and what appeared to be clean crisp linen. The towels seemed to have been improved from earlier reports so on the surface all is acceptable. (Oh, and cheap by Amsterdam standards is not necessary cheap by other measures (320e for 3 nights in Sept) as your average Premier/Travel Lodge is far better value and 10 times cleaner)
Anyway, the net curtains contained a designed/pattern borne from cigarette burns and I can only assume the designer was partaking of the amsterdam herbal. The Curtains were hanging off the rail too. Come on Leidseplein how much is a new net curtain and a 5 minute curtain fix? The worse however was the unpaying guests that lived within the matresses. Yes, i have brought home 15 bedbug bites from the infested, but at first look clean bed. I make no judgement for others but make your own mind up, me, NEVER AGAIN.

Room Tip: If you wish a good room - go somewhere else!
