After a mix up with my friends travel arrangements, I found myself in the city, alone, at night and unwilling to check into the original hostel I had booked.

Prins Hendrik had a room available at the last minute, they checked me in with little fuss at a fairly reasonable 70 euros (which I negociated down from 85 euros.)

The few attendants I encountered at the desk were not overly friendly, but were nice enough, the room was clean, a little dated but suitable, but it was definitely not a young/vibrant place which is strange considering it was SO CLOSE to the red light district.

Breakfast was included, a reasonable spread, TV in the room, bar attached to the hotel (which was always empty), the location was awesome, it was a welcome retreat after travelling a long way. A fair enough place for a relaxing kind of trip...if you want party you might want to consider somewhere else.

Note: The place really smelled like weed (it is Amsterdam) and it didn't bother me but it was bothering some other people.

Me and my mates were trying to find a decent hotel ,close to the city centre at a decent price, so we booked this hotel. We've read a few nasty reviews but didn't put us off. Hotel stuff were very helpful (the blonde fat blog was very funny-used to take the mick out of everybody) ,when we wanted to visit places they would always help and advice. The breakfast was brilliant and there was always more you could ask for. the beds were comfy and the steps were steap like in most of the places, but it was not a problem. Just a quick walk from the central train station, close to most coffeshops and red light district its a good place to stay. Will visit again.

We had dinner here in May & were very happy with food selection, service & value....although we weren't guests of the hotel, would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone looking for a good feed in Amsterdam.

Stayed for two nights and found the rooms very large, clean. Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast self service and as much as you want. Would go back.
Opposite central station so hand for trains, trams and hop on and off tour bus. Backs on to red light district, loads of restaurants and bars.
