“Check in folks were wonderful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2013

We stayed only one night before boarding a ship for a river cruise but I'd have loved to stay longer. The hotel staff were so gracious when we arrived early in the morning after an overnight flight. I thought we'd just be leaving our bags and wait for the official check in time, but to our happy surprise they allowed us to check in immediately and get settled in/refreshed to start our sightseeing on a great note.
The room, bed/bedding, bathroom/towels were up very nice. No complaints.
The breakfast the next morning was wonderful. I was really surprised by all the choices offered - hot and cold.
One last comment.............we opted to walk from the train station to the hotel upon arrival - it was a bit longer than I had thought it'd be, and had it been raining we'd have opted to take the Connexion bus instead or at least a tram.

We stayed at the Rho Hotel for 4 nights during the Queens Day festivities and the investiture of the new King.

The Rho Hotel is very convenient, being just around the corner from Dam Square. Our room was large, comfortable and well-equipped. The beds were comfortable. The pillows were a little lumpy, but the duvets were very nice. Windows were single-glazed, so a fair amount of noise was heard. I'm sure that this is not normally a problem, but during the festivities, with all the parties going on, it was a little noisy. Double-glazing would probably alleviate some of the noise -and would probably be more efficient in the colder weather.

The included breakfast provided a good selection: pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, rice, bread, pastries, toast, cereal, cheese, cold meat, tomatoes, cucumber, fruit, yogurt, juice, tea
and coffee. This was self-serve in a large dining room with windows facing the street.

There are 2 elevators in the Hotel. Unfortunately, during our visit, one of the elevators was out-of-order for part of the time, making wait times for the one remaining elevator rather long. Stairs are steep and not easily navigated with suitcases.

Reception staff was outstanding! They were very friendly and welcoming, and very eager to help us familiarize ourselves with Amsterdam. They were very helpful in telling us about events occurring, various closures due to the festivities, and providing suggestions, information and advice on things for us to do while in Amsterdam.

I would recommend the Rho Hotel. We found it to be very convenient, clean and comfortable, and the staff were extremely helpful.

Room Tip: Rm. 236 - from the hallway, once inside the door there are 3 stairs down to the room. Large room w...

Stayed here quite a long time ago but thought it deserved a review as I came across it again while booking a trip to Amsterdam
Would definately recommend this hotel to ANYONE visiting Amsterdam, couldn't be more central, literally feet away from Dam Square.
Lots of shops/bars/restaraunts around, we were able to walk to the Anne Frank Museum and Madame Tussauds wasn't far either, close to canal's and markets, would recommend especially if its your first time visiting Amsterdam!

Not the fanciest hotel I've ever stayed in, but the people were great and very helpful. The location was just wonderful...right by Dam Square. We stayed 4 nights and I recommend it for someone that wants a good location. We either walked or took the tram everywhere we wanted to go in Amsterdam. The breakfast was one of the best on the entire trip.

Don't be put off by the slightly dingy exterior - it opens out into a lobby the size of a railway station. We had a room at the back which was incredibly quiet considering the bedlam in the Dam square just yards away - not just any old annual Queen's Day holiday but a Royal Coronation to boot! Location perfect (max 10 mins walk from the railway station), staff superb, bedrooms clean and comfy, breakfast more than adequate. We stayed 3 nights - for dinner we tried the Cau steak bar in Damstraat round the corner, recommended by staff at the hotel, excellent choice; 2nd night the Tara Irish pub 100m down Nes street, lively and a better kitchen than you would think; and for our last night the incongruously named The Lobby, another 50m further on, which was really quite superb (€32 for a 3 course meal, well worth it.) We will definitely be coming back. I've seen reports highlighting that it's difficult to find one's way round the hotel. That's true, its geography is a bit confusing, but there is no H&S issue here, fire exits are clearly marked and easy to use, and I'm paranoid about fire exits! We went there with a DFDS ferry package from Newcastle and felt the price was pretty reasonable, considering it's right in the centre of a European capital city.

Room Tip: Rooms round an internal courtyard are a bit dark but very quiet.

Stayed from 28/04/13 - 02/06/13. Great posistion, lovely room(491) at front of hotel, bit noisy first two nights, but as Queens Day understandable.
Very good buffet breakfast and friendly and helpful staff.

We have been to Amsterdam many times and stayed at the Rho 5 times when the price is right. Went for Queen's Day this year (30/04/13) so it was great being just on Dam Square. If you have never been to Amsterdam this hotel is an excellent option in the perfect location. It is in fact always a good option if the price fits !!
The staff are the friendliest and most helpful we have ever experienced anywhere. Breakfast is excellent. The rooms are clean and in good condition.
We would return to the Rho without a doubt.......... :)
