“Great time at the Rho”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2011

Location ? Perfect, right on Dam Square so you can get anywhere easily either by tram or on foot.
Staff ? Very attentive reception staff with a sense of humour - had a problem with safe (user misoperation !) and the receptionist came to the room twice to assist us and was having a laugh and joke with us. We even received an unexpected discount on check-in as we had 3 triple rooms booked by two people.
Rooms ? Excellent - clean, comfortable and well appointed.
Public areas ? Lovely high-celinged reception area (the hotel used to be a cinema) and very pleasant breakfast room.
Food ? Superb breakfast included - something for everyone including hot options - constantly being replenished.
Satisfied ? Well I can't think of enything else I could have wanted - so absolutely !

This is my third visit to the Rho and I really can't fault it. The location couldn't be more central with everything right on your door step. The staff are always cheerful and helpful and are always willing to give advice and help. I've heard that some of the rooms are a strange shape and can be noisy but in my experience I have always had a spacious room with a nice bathroom. The only problem can be the heat at times. The rooms can sometimes become very hot and there is a lack of ventilation in the bedroom and especially the bathroom.
The breakfast is very good with a good selection of hot and cold food and is available until 1030 which is great after a late night.
The Rho doesn't offer you a canal view but for location, service, cleanliness and friendliness you can't beat it.

We came to Amsterdam to check in to a hotel our friend was at and it was full. We aske the font desk if they could recommend any other hotel and they pointed us in the direction of the RHO Hotel. Let's just say we stayed here another night despite it being over our budget because were so comfortable. The staff was very accomidating and gave us a room with a view. The room was modern, simple and clean and actually pretty big for your average small European rooms. The beds were comfortable and the hotel has a lift. The complimentary breakfast was delicious and surpassed our expectations. It IS overlooking Dam Square so it is a bit noisy but it calms down after 1..... We slept fine. (my boyfriend and I usually stay up late and can sleep through noise so if you are sensitive to that it might bother you). Overall great place.

We had a 2 night stay in this hotel. The lobby is extremely spacious and grand which creates a good first impression.
Reception staff were friendly and had a sense of humour which is always good. We checked in at about midday without any problems. We had requested a double bed and we were asked to confirm if this was still required when we checked in.

Rooms were very clean and well presented but there were a couple of minor gripes though
1) No coffee facilities in room
2) I like a soft bed but the mattress was just a bit too soft meaning that you practically had to step up to get out of it in the morning! Would still prefer this to some of the rock hard mattresses I've experienced elsewhere though

The room had a good sized fridge and safe which were very welcome.

Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice of fruit, eggs, bacon, cereals etc. So much better than the crusty roll in a basket offered by some hotels

Location was perfect, right off Dam square and was easy to find and just a 10 minute walk from Centraal Station

I would go back in an instant and wouldn't even consider choosing a different hotel

Located just off Dam Square within easy walking distance to the Red Light District, Anne Frank House and Old Church, the RHO Hotel offers a clean, quiet three-star type room and excellent hot and cold buffet style breakfast. Our only complaint was the room was very warm and the small fan did not provide sufficient air circulation.

The location is excellent, just off Dam Square and within walking distance of everything. We arrived late morning, and our room was ready for us. Our room was a bit unusual - the floor slanted down between the desk/sitting area, and the bed area - took some getting used to. But much larger than rooms in other european cities. In peeking in other rooms, there appears to be a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Very clean, the desk staff were always pleasant and helpful. The breakfast buffet was good. As mentioned in other reviews, it can get a bit noisy from the bar next door Pillows were very lumpy, but other than that, and the odd shape of the room it was clean and comfortable.

First impression is the hotel lobby/foyer which is a visual treat.

Helpful reception, both with checking in and local information.

Booked a triple room, a sort of L shaped room with the 3rd bed at the end of the L - ideal when travelling with a teenager. Simple but spotlessly clean and plenty spacious. Big bathroom. Only niggles were that room got quite warm on first night and we could not work out how to adjust heating, also sound of footsteps from corridors overhead from time to time.

Lift could mean a bit of a wait and stairs are steep and not easy unless you are able bodied. First floor has seating overlooking that magnificent lobby.

Small bar which we did not try out. Breakfast buffet is very good - even had a rice dish which suited my wife who is Coeliac (no gluten).

Location perfect. Edge of red light area. Just off Dam Square. Two blocks from main tramlines and 10 minutes walk from the station.
