“Good Stay and Location!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2013

Couple of friends and I stayed here for a few nights. Location and price were great. Decor was a little funky, but I kinda liked that. Room was adequate size for 3 and the bathroom was big and spacious. Complimentary breakfast was great, very cozy feel to it. Staff were friendly most of the time, though not that helpful. Still enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to others on a budget or traveling with friends.

Stayed at Hotel Sint Nicolass for a three night city break between 22 - 25 Jan 2013.
Selected this hotel based on previous TA reviews and proximity to the railway station.
We were not disappointed. The hotel is well and truly in the 'small and friendly' category.
As previous reviews report, it is within a 5 - 10 minute walk from the station, which is only a 20 minute journey from the airport at a cost of E3.70. Do not waste money on taxi fares.
We had room 33 on the third floor, which offers a pleasant view which includes the station.
The room was spotlessly clean, if a little on the small side. That said, on a city break you do not use your room a great deal. Bathroom facilities were excellent and included a double size walk in power shower.
Staff were very polite and helpful - in particular 'Jamie' who was the receptionist during the evening both when we arrived and throughout our stay.
The breakfast was simple but plentiful and perfectly adequate.
The hotel is within easy walking distance of the main shopping areas off Dam Square, the Red Light District, and the canal boat tours. Although as previously stated, local trams stop directly outside, we did have cause to use them.
Snow was on the ground throughout our stay and it was 'below minus' throughout. It was lovely to return at night and sit in front of the open fire with a beer or wine to thaw out. The hotel bar prices were very reasonable compared to the bars in the Dam Square area.
All in all, for our requirements, we could not fault this hotel. Having researched the usual booking sites, we found it cheaper to book direct with the hotel web site.
This hotel does not pretend to be 'high end luxury' and in these days of 'you get what you pay for' it could not be faulted.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We had higher floor and experienced no external noise whatsoever.

We needed a place to stay on our last day in Amsterdam that was close to Centraal railway station so we could catch an early train to Schipol. Hotel Sint Nicolaas is a good, economical option if you just want something clean, warm and friendly. We had room 33 which is on the 3rd floor (there are 4) at the front so it had a nice cosmopolitan outlook toward the station. The room is not huge but big enough for our quick stop over with a decent size bathroom but no fridge. Downstairs is reception, sitting area with open fire and the restaurant where a good continental breakfast is served. The room was quiet and we were able to walk to Centraal in less than 10 minutes. Perfect.

Clean, comfortable, American style bathroom. Really enjoyed the decor. Friendly staff. Not too far from the Amsterdam center, walking distance from everything - 5 min walk to the rail station. I would definitely stay here again. Breakfast buffet was nice and the coffee machine made it extra special! There is a little bit of Red Light District a few blocks away...but that is pretty common in the touristy parts of Amsterdam from what I found on my walks....and I did feel safe enough walking in those areas so it wasn't an issue.

As has been mentioned, the location of this hotel is excellent - really only five minutes walk from the station if that, and all sights within easy walking distance. It is on the border of two quite different areas - the Red Light District (there are a couple of girls in neon windows and a few sex shops on Spuistraat, but if you visit Amsterdam at all I'm afraid you're not going to avoid this completely) but to the other side, the Jordaan. This is much more my kind of Amsterdam; little boutique shops and cafes with picturesque canals.

The hotel is attractively done out, although some of the "artwork" in the corridors is a bit garish and the decor bordering on bordello-like, which is quite common amongst modern hotels it seems. Our room had deep red walls which unfortunately drew attention to the only significant criticism of the place: the rooms are small! At least, ours was. There is a decent sized double bed, a small bedside cabinet on either side and a table and chair crammed under the window, and really no room for anything else. Combined with the colour of the walls, this did make it feel very slightly oppressive by day, although cosy at night. The bathroom was better; clean and bright, with good quality fittings and a nice hot shower.

The staff are friendly, the breakfast above average (of note, the excellent bean-to-cup coffee machine and buttery croissant) and served in the stylish hotel reception area. Free wifi with excellent signal even on floor 4 was a real boon. There is a huge flat screen TV on the wall opposite the bed, and effective air-con because even in January it got hot at night. However, we live in a city centre flat anyway, so we chose to have the window open and enjoy the sounds of Amsterdam, but this can be very effectively excluded by shutting the window if one prefers. Unfortunately, on the one occasion we did this, the air-con insisted on making a bubbly noise even when turned off which was arguably more annoying than any traffic!

I think for the central location and reasonable price, this hotel is a really good choice, especially for first-timers like us who don't want to struggle finding their hotel on the first night (please just get the train to Amsterdam Centraal from the airport rather than waste money on a cab, it really is easy, and close by!). Some little extras (notably tea/coffee facilities in the room, perhaps more substantial towels) would bump it up a bit, but I suspect that in a medieval city, not many hotels have huge rooms.

The hotel was great in every way, they even gave us a bottle of sparkly wine for New Year's Eve . The service is very kind and professional .
Just one thing - during the booking process I would have preferred that the final woluld be presented including all the taxes and not to discover that I was charged more later on . But that is something that depends on the booking site and not the hotel.
I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and colleagues!
