“Perfection! Like staying in A Museum!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2009

I can't say enough good things about this hotel!

Booking via telephone was easy and efficient. We got a great last minute rate which was a bonus.

We arrived in Amsterdam around noon and the hotel very kindly allowed us to check in straight away instead of the usual 3 p.m. check-in.

The hotel is a lovely canal house located on the corner of two beautiful canals. The location is excellent.

The room itself was filled to the brim with antiques. It was like staying in a museum. Breakfast is included in the room rate and is delivered to your room in the morning. The breakfast was one of the best I have experienced in a hotel where it was included in the rate. Lovely fresh pastries and bread, cold meats, cheeses, coffee, tea, fruit, yoghurt...you couldn't ask for more. Every morning, the breakfast would be tailored to what you liked or didn't like from the morning before.

There isn't a thing I can complain about. I would recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Amsterdam!

  • Liked — It is everything a chain hotel is not
  • Disliked — The second pull out bed was a little sagging in the middle.

Indeed, there was a problem with the frame of the new futon (the sofa, a pull out bed):
The 2 parts of the bottom of the bed did not open correctly and did therefore not form a flat unit ( due to a mechanical problem) so that one could get the impression that the bed was sagging in the middle.
This deplorable problem has been solved immediately, thanks to the kind information of our guests - on this site.

We stayed 7 nights at the Seven Bridges. Our hosts were most kind in helping us make reservations and negotiating our stay...even provided us with earplugs on New Years Eve so that we could sleep through the night long fireworks. I loved the beautiful breakfast served on different china each morning. Such a lovely touch. This was certainly one of the best hotels that we have stayed in any major city in Europe. And to top it off, the Seven Bridges is in a great location on a beautiful canal.

A truly delightful hotel that delivered on all of its promises. Quirky and individual, definitely not a bog-standard chain hotel. And all the better for that!

We stayed for four nights in room number 4 and loved it. The room held up to our expectations from the photos on the hotel's website, it was beautifully furnished with antiques, expensive carpets and curtains. The room was very cosy and had a wonderful atmosphere so that we enjoyed every minute we spent in it. The staff was very friendly, helpful and professional and the location of the hotel was superb.

  • Liked — cosy atmosphere, location, breakfast in room

We loved our stay at this hotel. Our room was beautifully furnished with antique furniture and had a wonderful view of the canal. Lovely fresh flaky croissants, pastries and fruit were carried up to our room every morning so that we could eat breakfast at a table by the window and watch the life in the street below. A fantastic experience. The management were friendly and anxious to help and everything was very clean.

We have been very remiss in writing this review. Our stay in January was the 4th time we stayed at the Seven Bridges. We had a slight problem on arrival and Gunther & Pierre were most helpful in resolving it. We were enjoying our stay so much that we extended it by several days. I've stayed at other small hotels in Amsterdam and none of them came close to matching the charm and space. I wouldn't recommend the Seven Bridges to everyone, and neither would the owners. The stairs are steep and you have to carry your own bags. If you are someone who overpacks or isn't able to climb stairs, you might want to consider somewhere else. If you can get past this then this is the place to stay. I can't recommend it enough. Great location. Fabulous breakfast served in your room!

  • Liked — Charm, location and great breakfast.
  • Disliked — The stairs get steeper each trip!

I recently stayed for three nights in room 8. The room faced the garden with two very comfortable beds, antique furniture for closet/storage space and a very clean bathroom. They had a towel heating rack in the bathroom and adjustable heater in the room so we were never cold or too hot. I can't remember the number of TV channels available but definitely more English channels than just CNN or BBC news.

I really loved the breakfast served in room. The croissants were still hot when we received them and the bananas/oranges were great mid-morning snack to take with us for later. They served awesome coffee as well. All in all, it was way better than the normal continental breakfast you get at typical European hotels.

I also loved the fact that the hotel was not right on a tram line or a tram stop, it's in a really quiet area. It was a great place to relax after walking around all day. Amsterdam is definitely made for walking or biking! We walked to most of the sights, and the only time we really took the tram was when we went to Centraal station.

  • Liked — Cleanliness, breakfast, friendly staff
  • Disliked — water pressure in the shower
