“Wouldnt stay anywhere else”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

We are 21 and 22 years old and we travelled in the summer time. We wanted a place where young people stay, that was busy at night time, had a greta bar and it was easy to meet people. This was definately the perfect hostel for what we wanted. We are so glad we listened to people who told us to stay here.
It is right in the heart of the red light district which is actually so safe at night time. We are two young girls who didnt feel unsafe at all in this area and had no problems walking back to the hostel after nights out as it is so close and central to everything and is always busy at night during this time of year.
The private room with an ensuite is extremely comfortable. The bathroom is extremely small and the shower isnt that greta but it is so worth it for the atmosphere of the hostel.
The bar downstairs has awesome food and is great for meeting people and not to mention the drinks are SO CHEAP.
The reception staff are incredibly helpful and great to talk to. It is on the most famous street for cafes and is close to bakeries, restaurants and bars. I would absolutely recommend this place and would never stay anywhere else when we come back to Amsterdam.
AMAZING HOSTEL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Hey girls,
It's really great that you felt safe in Amsterdam. Sometimes the city is unfairly branded with a bad reputation and we're glad to see that you were phased by that.
Safe travels ; )

This hostel is located right in the red light district. It takes no time to walk there from the train station, and is really close to everything (including Dam Square). The directions on the website are a bit off though. It tells you to make a right at a store that no longer exists, but if you follow their directions to "turn right at the Chikita Shop" and find that there's no Chikita shop, don't fret. If you follow the directions they list on the site, still turn right onto Warmostraat and you'll find it (if you've walked past the Condomerie, you've gone too far.

The red light district is lively and there's a lot going on, all hours of the day and night. I walked home at night a few times, and there were a few shady, creepy men who made comments or tried talking to me/walking me to my hostel, but I think that can happen in any city.

The room I had was a 8 bed mixed dorm. It was relatively clean and the beds were comfortable. The shower was awful, though. When you showered, it went everywhere.

Its close to the location of the free walking tour (Dam Square, 1 minute walk). It's also close to Damrak, which is where I needed to be for a windmill tour.

My one criticism is the front desk staff. There was 1 guy who was really nice when I checked in, but otherwise, the rest of them were pretty terrible. They rushed you through, seemed irritated if you came by with a question, and generally were pretty useless. The bar staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful though!

I would stay here again, just for the location.

Hey Erin,
Great detailed review you've left us here. Lots of things for us to consider. We've already made a few amendments based on your recommendations and our maintenance boys quickly tackled that shower issue you wrote about.
We're going to write to you privately about your comments regarding our front desk staff though.
Good to see that you enjoyed your stay with us, and it's true that we do have a very central location.
All the best,

The location is awesome, right in the center of tons of bars and restaurants, around the corner from the red light district, quick walk to the square where most tours meet.
My friend and I stayed in the two person room on the 5th floor, and there was no AC- which is no big deal, but the noise from the street carries up and it can be pretty loud. I never made it to breakfast because they shut it down at the exact time they say they're going to.
The bar was busy at night and was a great way to meet new people. The beer garden is really nice. There is wifi in two areas of the hotel.
The staff was really friendly and welcoming.
The beds were clean and comfortable.
Some negatives- the shower door was broken, tiny bathroom (I got water all over the place just brushing my teeth), and the garbage wasn't emptied when we arrived.

Room Tip: ask to have a room overlooking the courtyard for a quieter room

We've made sure to pass on your kind comments about our staff to them directly. Makes their day when they know that they've made a lasting impression on our guests : )
And, it's good to see you got a good night's rest. Nothing's more important when you've a busy day exploring Amsterdam ahead of you. Pity you missed breakie though. If you ask our staff we usually have leftover fruit and eggs and stuff that we can leave out for those guests who snooze through their alarms.
Thanks for pointing us in the direction of those bathroom issues. You'll be happy to know that's all taken care of now.
Take care

I love st christophers this was my second time using this company and always look for them when I'm in Europe. Great location, close to train station and city center. Enjoyed the free walking tour. And was close to the location where I picked up the windmill day tour the next day. Had a free breakfast cheap and clean rooms and just can't say enough about how great this company is. Front desk so helpful in showing you anything you wanted to know on the map. Internet went down for a bit the first day but they apologized and it was fixed by the time I was back that night.

Stayed for one night in a double room that had one wall covered with a large photo of two naked guys. The room was small (10m2), the beds were small, the bathroom was small (2m2); the location was great. If you just need a place to crash, I totally recommend it.

St Christopher's Inn was our first experience staying in a youth hostel. The stay was perfect and exceeded any expectations, especially for the amazing prices per night! The hostel staff were so friendly and helpful and the hostel itself was modern, clean and perfectly located above a chain of bars called Belushi's! We loved the garden at the back and the balcony that we had outside our room, both locations you were allowed to smoke in. It made our stay in Amsterdam perfect! It was literally 5 minutes from Centraal Station, Dam Square and amazing coffee shops.

I stayed there with my girlfriend and we wanted to meet people from around the world. We think that the location is excellent, very close to the dam square. The breakfast was very tasty and had alot of Varied food.
The pub is big but we thought that the tables will be big and long so people can sit together and talk with each other, like in other hostels but very good for couples that want to be alone. The pub is often full of people so there isn't a place to sit and smoke for the residents of the hostel.
Room is beautiful and clean. Very good that has a big window in the room but little bit a noise from the street even if you close the window.
If we will come back to Amsterdam and would like to be alone we would stay here again but if we want to meet other people we would search for another place.

Room Tip: If you would like quite ask for a room with no window (don't know if there is any). Wake up earl...
