“Decent hotel, great location.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

Stayed here for four nights, travelling alone. The staff were friendly and helpful when checking in. The first night, the shared bathroom was dirty, urine on the seat, toilet unflushed, no toilet paper (the bathroom was shared between two rooms) but I had arrived about 10pm, was tired and just went to bed. If I had complained it probably would have got cleaned, as it was cleaned the next day, and when the people in the other room had left it stayed clean. So it really is down to luck as to whether you get someone dirty sharing the bathroom, rather than poor housekeeping. The room was very basic, but very clean. A small complaint about the room was the TV reception was poor, and there was no remote control, but as I was out most of the day this was not really a problem.
The dining room and reception were clean and bright, and the breakfast was great, a buffet with a good choice on offer.
There were some steep steps up to the hotel, and to the upper floors, I didn't find this a problem as I only had hand luggage, but something to be aware of if you have cases.
The walls were thin, on the last night I was kept awake by a group of lads shouting and slamming doors so I would be wary of staying there at busier times, or next time I would recommend buying earplugs! Having said all this though, I paid just £35 or so per night for the room so cannot really complain too much.
It was in a great location, 5-10 minutes walk from town, and a tram stop to and from the station right outside the hotel. There is a supermarket underneath the hotel and a nightshop across the road. All in all I would recommend this hotel as it is cheap and a fantastic location.

Stayed here for the third time recently. Glad to see that nothing had changed. Staff friendly and helpful as always. Discovered what I should have done before, which is that it's easier to book directly through their website than do it via booking.com, who managed to leak my credit card details the last time I used them. Couldn't get a room for my entire stay, and the other hotel, while pleasant enough, made me appreciate things like Abba's breakfast the more.

I was slightly apprehensive to be staying in a 'budget' hotel, however I needn't have been worried. The reception area was welcoming, the rooms were basic but very clean, and the bathroom was also really decent (with a new shower curtain). So we were happy as soon as we arrived. Our double bed was made with pristine white sheets, and towels were provided.

The location of this hotel is brilliant. A supermarket and ATM just downstairs, a tram stop directly opposite, and a five minute walk to Leidesplein.

The only downside for us was that we found the bed extremely hard, and the pillows very firm, however this is surely personal preference. We did not make it to breakfast so cannot comment on this, but based on our overall experience we would definitely recommend this hotel.

The Abba Hotel is well located, it is not in the center, but walking distance. Perfect if you don't like the confusion and noise of a busy downtown! If you don't like to walk either, than trams are available right at the doorstep!
Is also easy accessible from the airport, either by train/ tram or by direct bus (197) to Leidsplein.
The staff is friendly: we arrived before check-in and the recepcionist was very nice, giving us some information and talking about daily life - Olá desde Portugal Bartak! (hope I have got your name correctly!)
The breakfast is really good! The breakfast room is very nice and clean and they offer a good range of food and beverages.
The rooms are comfortable and clean and most of all, warm (as we went in November)!
Overall, a very good value for money!

Stayed here for 4 days with a friend. Hotel is easy to find, right outside leidesplein number 1 tram stop. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very friendly receptionist, who sorted the confusion out (I made the booking with booking.com - I highly recommend avoiding this and booking directly through the hotel!) and gave us our room keys. The only negative point was dragging my suitcase up 3 flights of stairs, but you only have to do it once. The room was extremely clean for the price we paid, and the bathroom was spotless and only shared with 1 other room. Situated right above a supermarket it makes eating in extremely cheap! The location of the hotel itself was perfect, slightly outside the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam but within perfect walking distance to everything. (We did not have to tram or bus at all, only to the airport!) the staff are so helpful and give directions if needed. (Also the big jar of sweets on the counter are a bonus!) the breakfast was lovely, you couldn't expect more for what you pay for the hotel. Selection of cheese, ham, salami, bread, toast, eggs, lots of fruit & cereal, tea and coffee. The rooms were extremely clean and even cleaned daily, and the towels were replaced. Don't get me wrong- this place is not luxury. But it is brilliant value for money and is ideal for anyone looking for cheap accommodation and good location. Big thanks to the staff for a brilliant Amsterdam holiday.

Regular hotels were so expensive this time around so I decided to go for B&B. Hotel Abba's rate is only fraction of cost of full service hotel. Took bus 197 right outside of AMS, paid 4 Euros and get into Leidseplein, which is the centre of town. Walked three blocks and arrived at the hotel. Too early to check in so the receptionist offered to store my luggage and offered me coffee before I venture out into the city. When I returned to check in, room was ready. Has to pay in full for the duration of my stay in cash. Has a back room with balcony looking into the courtyard. Room has a heater but is not air-conditioned, but windows could be opened. The room is more like a dormitory room than a hotel room, furnished with a twin bed, a desk and chair, and TV. I have booked a room with private bath and shower, which is well worth the 5 Euros difference than sharing a bath with others. Hotel is only 5 blocks from Museumplein where all the major museums are located. There is also a tram stop right outside of hotel to take you closer towards the train station and other tourist attractions like Dam Square or the Flowers Market. Vondel Park is only two blocks away and it is a wonderful oasis in the middle of the city. There is also a grocery store right under the hotel for a quick snack, drinks, or fresh fruits. The hotel also serves a wonderful complimentary breakfast in a clean and spacious breakfast room with warm boiled eggs, cold cuts with cheese, sliced tomatoes and cucumbers, an assortment of bread and cereals, juices, milk, coffee, and a variety of fresh fruits. Free WiFi is provided in the guest rooms, although connection is a bit of hit and miss, sometimes there is no problem while other times it may disconnect every five minutes.
Staff is overall very friendly and try to be helpful when approached.
Overall this is a wonderful hotel for someone who does not want to break the bank and get to stay in a safe and reasonably well rounded accommodation.

Room Tip: Back room looking into courtyard is quiet. Stairs is steep and narrow, so if you have difficulties n...
