First off: The reviews that harp on this place are probably made by uptight losers.
Second off: We booked this place because we had heard it was an 'experience' and that it wasn't as bad as it sounded. They were right.
The beds were basic but generally clean. The walls were old but the drinks were cheap. The bar downstairs was a great lounge area to meet other diverse young travelers. The location of this place was extremely safe and very convenient! We could walk to the main area of shops, Anne Frank's house, coffeeshops, the "I AMSTERDAM" sign, and even the train station if we wanted to. Just a very short tram ride to the Red Light District, and train station. The cheeky posters made this place what it is, an edgy budget hotel for people with a sense of humor.More
