“Warning Cancel any booking that includes a Saturday night”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2014

This hotel is in a great location, has an owner that also runs a Restaurant from the opposite street which is connected to the courtyard of the hotel by a beer garden with loud continuous noise, broken glasses, smashing of bottles, group singing etc which at 1.30 am reduced in volume a little and music finished at 2.20am then furniture was being moved. We had a room overlooking this courtyard, no AC, had to keep windows closed but this only slightly muted the noise. The Sunday night less noise and finished around 11.30 pm Monday night quiet!!!! Staff at Hotel Agora most likely find it very hard to provide a professional service when the owner has no interest in doing so.

IN A CITY THAT IS SO EASY TO GET AROUND, AND WITH SO MANY HOTELS, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE.
In between 2 night clubs and on a noisy canal...no sleep. Would have closed the window to block the street noise, but no AC.
The hotel is dirty and in disrepair. Smelly damp carpeting everywhere. Threadbare towels and exposed wires covered with duct tape in the bathroom.
WORST OF ALL...OVERPRICED.
The only saving grace, some of the staff, but that's not enough. There are too many choices...so SKIP THIS ONE!

Room Tip: chose this for location. Amsterdam is a small city and almost everything is in a good location

Let’s start with the good points. It’s located next to the Flower Market, facing a canal, close to restaurants, food market and tramways. The free breakfast is fair and the people at reception are very nice. That’s it for the positive side.

Now the dark side. There is no elevator. The stairways are very steep and steps are narrow to the point that on some of them, your feet will not rest completely. Forget taking heavy luggage on the upper floors. Our room, advertised as “with private bathroom on the floor” is exactly that. The room being so small, the bathroom is across the hallway. So if you take a shower, bath or need to go the bathroom overnight, you must cover yourself, again having to cross the hallway. And don’t forget your “access card” since you need it to get in the bathroom and back in your room. The room is only furnished with a bed, a chair, a small shaky table and a little wardrobe. The bed is not a king size, neither a queen but a double bed and the mattress was new a long long time ago. Our room being near the roof, the bed is “inserted” between roof beams so you have to be careful not to knock your head. Out of a five nights stay, we believe that only once was the floor vacuumed. Carpets are stained in many locations and cleanliness is not the strength of this hotel.

Great location, just down Kalverstraat and all near Leidsestraat, ideal for shopping, with very friendly staff and smiling but that's all !! This hotel falls a bit ruined, dilapidated room, stained carpet and noisy,... a bit limited.
