“Good price, clean, great location”
Reviewed May 13, 2012

We stayed one night in Amsterdam and wanted convenient access to the city, the port (coming off a cruise) and the airport. We chose this hotel based on these factors and the good price. It was less than 5 min train ride to Amsterdam Central and less than 10 to the airport. Very convenient! We dropped our luggage off to be securely kept there as we arrived at 9 am (they had a locked room and gave us luggage tags, made us feel safe leaving it there). We went in to the city, walked around, came back in the afternoon, laid down for a bit and went back for dinner. It was very easy. My one complaint was the wake up calls. We had to be up at 7 AM. The wake up via the phone system wouldn't go through. I asked the front desk and they said they would put it through manually and didn't seem suprised that it wasn't working. I was very hesitant about this and we even called back to confirm the wake up call before going to bed. I slept horribly because I was stressed about over sleeping and missing our flight. Not surprisingly, we never received a wake up call, but fortunately, we woke up in time. I would stay there again, but have a back up alarm clock ready...

First the pro's.. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are smartly appointed. It is convenient to the city centre via the tram and bus if you have the pass.. otherwise its a super quick one stop train ride. The free wifi is a bonus however it is very- very glitchy in the rooms.. I did mention this at check out and they said they had a meeting with the provider upcoming, so hopefully they can resolve it.. I was only on the second floor mind you...

Finally the cons... We experienced a lovely fire alarm at 3am while there and I would say this was not handled very well. it was a false alarm thankfully but after standing out in the cold for 30 minutes I did not see any staff presence to make any announcements... lead to a poor perception. Finally when it was over they did apologize about the ordeal. Still left for a bad night and following day...

The twin beds were rough on the back i felt a spring digging into my back the whole time.

The only other oppourtunity i would say to this hotel would be to fine tune the breakfast.. I have stayed at Holiday Inn Express' in Italy, England, Canada and the United States.. at all of these locations they offered scrambled eggs sausage or bacon.. i found this place to have some cereal, breads and 'lunch meat"... i would definitely try this place again because as i said the service was top notch.

Stayed at this hotel over the May holiday weekend. Major issue was beng waken from our sleep at 3am on the Sunday morning by the fire alarm. Whist this can appen anywhere (it turned out to be a false alarm) I was not impressed by the ack of any visible staff presence outside, or the fact that no fire brigade turned up.
We were outside in the cold for 30 minutes before the alarm was turned off. Had to ask at reception the next day about what had happened.
Service was okay, but I've certainly had better welcomes at other Holiday Inn or Express hotels worldwide. A pity, because the location is good if you don't mind a 5 minute train ride to/ from the city.

Dear William S,

Thanks for your review. I am sorry for any inconvenience the fire alarm may have caused you.
The safety of our guests is of utmost concern to us. So even with a false alarm we need to have all guests evacuate. Thank you for understanding.

Very strategic location, just next to the Sloterdijk train station. This provides easy access to Amsterdam city center and also sub-urb destinations. Hotel room is very clean and free wifi is available! You can also enjoy a drink at the hotel lounge paying the similar price as those bars or pubs outside!

Some contributors have complained about the location of the hotel. It is some distance from the centre of Amsterdam but is right next to Sloterdijk train station from where there are very frequent trains to central station, which only take about five minutes (a return ticket cost me €4.20). The location is also convenient if you want to travel outside Amsterdam (we went to Haarlem for the day, for example), and the room rate was quite a bit lower than equivalent accommodation closer to the centre.

However, one downside of the location is the lack of nearby restaurants. The only place we could find to eat was a bar, located just outside the hotel. I ate there on my first night, having arrived fairly late. I had fairly low expectations but was actually pleasantly surprised.

The room was clean and modern, although a couple more hooks in the bathroom would have been usefuI, and we didn't hear any noise from the trains at all (west facing room on the 6th floor). The choice at breakfast was fairly wide. The desk staff were helpful and were happy to print out various museum tickets for us.
