“Traditional bar with good food”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

Following a long walk we needed a drink and something to eat and decided to try this pub which turned out to be a good choice. The bar is a traditional old pub with a large selection of beers. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The sandwiches are delicious and very good value compared to the majority of restaurants in Amsterdam which seem to be very expensive and poor value. We actually returned there the following day as it was so good.

“Friendly, lots of students”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

A friendly cafe where you can go alone; there are plenty of students and a nice assortment of locals. Nothing pretentious, but the prices are reasonable, location is good, and wine is reasonably priced. A mainstay in Amsterdam. Great to meet people at since it is easy to find and centrally located.

“First lunch in Amsterdam”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

After an overnight flight from the US and an hour spent wandering around Amsterdam, Cafe Stevens was just what we were looking for in a first meal. After fitting through the very narrow door, we found a homey little spot full of old wooden tables, candlelight and locals. We both had sandwiches -- one gorgonzola, one ham -- and beer, all for a very reasonable price. Definitely worth a visit.

This is a little gem!
We had a few beers and some olives and cheese. Great value and great service. The staff are friendly and make everyone feel welcome through their attentiveness.

“Excellent little bar, a real find”
Reviewed February 5, 2013 via mobile

The problem with Amsterdam is when looking for somewhere to eat off the beaten track, you could be walking into anything. Many cafe/coffee houses reek of cannabis and many restaurants charge too much for sub-standard food. So when we were looking for somewhere early evening before we went to the airport we had walked around many such cafes before, more in desperation than anything else, we went into Cafe Stevens. It was already busy with early evening business, almost exclusively Dutch people. We found a small table and were served by a delightful waitress who provided us with a snack menu in English. We ordered drinks and perused the menu. We eventually ordered mixed fried snacks and bread with dips. When they came they were lovely and, washed down with the local beer, were more than adequate for the task. The service was very good with the waitress constantly checking wiout being intrusive. In the end we stayed for a couple of hours and had a few more drinks. The place itself has character and is constantly bustling with locals. There are a very good choice of beers and drinks, a limited but satisfying range of food and very pleasant and amicable serving staff. This was a real find, and somewhere I will be going back to when we return.
