Although there were mixed reviews on this hotel I chose it for myself and three friends who have retired as it said good location. We are four ladies and felt very safe walking around.across the road over the bridge were good restauraunts and bars our favourite eating place was Rancho for good steaks and the Irish bars for drinks. To the right was only a five minute walk to the museums also a lovely park. The staff in the hotel were all very helpful and pleasant , we had 2 standard rooms which were plenty big enough and had been re carpeted , there wasn't much hanging space but with shelves was adequate. The free tea and coffee was an added bonus in a pleasant dining area where breakfast was served, a great choice hot and cold, and everything was replaced when it got low. Another nice touch every morning was a brief newsletter in about 6 different languages. I told the manager I would not hesitate to recommend his hotel and praised him on answereing all the reviews good or bad.

Room Tip: Dont ask for small standard on front were quiet with double glazing.

We had a great stay in the Hampshire Hotel. The rooms were clean but could do with being a little bigger (that’s the only negative and that’s being picky). The location was spot on, right near plenty of café/restaurants, Lidl round the corner (for when your budget is stretched), was easy to find. The breakfast seemed a little expensive so we went to one of the Irish bars with a restaurant and had a fry up for about €9. Free fresh bean coffee available all day. All in all we couldn't fault the hotel or Amsterdam, was a great week away.

The hotel is located a stone's throw from Leidseplein, which is a connection point for many trams and buses, including a direct bus line to Schiphol airport. There is also a food store just around the corner.

The staff was friendly and helpful and the room cleaning worked well. The room itself was although a bit too small and narrow for our liking. The hallway was only wide enough for one person and the bathroom was also very oblong and narrow. Even the elevator was small and there was barely room for two people with luggage. The stairs leading up to the hotel were very steep and not easy to climb with heavy luggage. But, as we learned, almost all stairs in Amsterdam are steep.

When we first arrived, the room was stone cold. Nothing that couldn't be fixed by turning the radiator thermostat, but one would expect that to be done before hotel guests arrive, since the outside temperature was below freezing point. The room was also equipped with a tv, hairdryer and a safe. Sadly no fridge. The double bed only had one quilt, which we had to share. The hotel had free wifi.

Despite being close to the night-life of Leidseplein and a couple of larger streets, we were not disturbed by outside noises. We were, however, disturbed by other hotel guests when they got back in the middle of the night, as the walls and doors were not very well sound-proof.

We had the hotel breakfast a couple of mornings (10€ if pre-booked, otherwise 15€). It was quite alright with bacon and scrambled eggs, fresh bread, yoghurt, etc. Coffee and tea could be made at any time during the day at no extra cost.

Despite all the mentioned drawbacks, we were after all quite happy with our stay. Mainly because of the proximity to central Amsterdam and keeping the relatively low price in mind.

Room Tip: As soon as you have arrived in your room, check that the thermostat has a reasonable setting.

I have been stayed there for 4 nights. The room was on the ground floor. There were no telephone in the room. No minibar either. You have hot water 24 hours and heating. The reception was helpful. The breakfast is simple but good. If I go back to Amsterdam I will absolutely stay there cause it covers all my expectations.

Room Tip: Do not have room on ground floor. 020 021 room numbers are on ground floor looking to a hall.
