Very disappointed.

Not being able to book or confirm a canal view when paying and booking for a hotel on the canal made it pointless. The "standard double" room was similar to an attic room with sloped ceilings making for even less usable space. You had to duck to access the toilet in the washroom, you could not properly sit in the chairs in the room due to head space, and you could not properly open the closet door due to the position of the bed.

Particular staff were very terse and unaccommodating while others were more pleasant.

An even bigger drawback were the common areas ... carpets in the hallways and dining area were covered with large dirt and soil stains everywhere making it very unappealing.

Clean hotel, friendly staff, great breakfast, close to train station on the Singel canal. Quiet room in the back( front more noisy). Great tapas bar around the corner, easy walk to Hop on Hop off canal tours. We would book there next time we are in Amsterdam.

No luxury, bot real value for money and my room was cozy, even if it not was big and there were no view of the canal. The rooms I saw were clean, the staff was friendly and the breakfast good. Would stay there again.

Staff was screaming to other guests About that this guest wanted to put a table together with another table (make 2 two persons tables become one big table for 4 persons, since it was a family). The host didn't allow this because the table was heavy (in her eyes) but the guest even proposed to put it back for her after the food. I think it's ridiculous!!! And her attitude was so unprofessional! What a rude lady.
The receptions was closed minded and not flexible. The bill had to be paid before check in and could nt been paid at check out.
Even if there would be a "guarantee" with a credit card; still the payment had to be done before checking in. I know why, because the service is so bad that no one would pay for such a bad stay if they would allow to pay at check out. What a nightmare!!

I spent two nights at Singel hotel with two friends and it has been a great experience. The location is perfect to go around and very quiet at the same time. It's just 5/10 minutes walking to Amsterdam Centraal station and the view of the canal is a must have. Staff was easy going and very welcoming, the hotel is very clean even thought the bathroom was not really big. Breakfast was good as well/

Stayed at Singel last October, was very happy with it and came back as I wanted to share the experience with my mum. Booked very well in advance - about 3 months before the stay. Booked a twin luxury room so we get a good view of the canal like the previous stay although the room is much more expensive. When we arrived, we were greeted by an unfriendly staff who seems more like a hostel warden than a hotel receptionist! We were given a double room on the first floor instead! Asked if we could get a room on a higher floor as the room is right on the street with big window - canal view as if! So we could hear every noise and had to be careful when changing clothes; passerby might mistake us as one of the girls in the Amsterdam windows! The 'hostel warden' was just so unhelpful when asked for a room on a higher floor - would be ok if it was done with a friendly face and a friendly tone! With such an advance booking, I find this quite unacceptable - given a double room when booked for a twin, and not being informed about it is just plain ridiculous. And at breakfast, you are supposed to share sugar and milk with the next table. We knew this as when we took sugar from an empty table behind us, the 'hostel warden' said - you're supposed to share it with the table next to you. Unbelievable...for over 140euro a night, we felt as if we were being cheated. Wifi was as 'unfriendly' as the 'hostel warden' and she put a 10euro deposit on our room for a small plug converter! Will never come back and will not recommend it.
