“Excellent location and friendly staff!”
Reviewed November 20, 2009

My husband and I stayed at the Nadia hotel for four nights. This hotel is located in an excellent area. It’s literally a five-minute walk from Dam Square, which is the center of the city. We arrived at the hotel around mid morning, and were very happy when they allowed us to check into our room right away. We were a bit disappointed when we saw how small the room was. However, it was immaculately clean and they even had a fresh flower bouquet in the room welcoming us. That was a very nice touch! The bathroom was also small, but the shower had a lot of pressure. As per our request, our room had a balcony and the view was great. We could see the Canal and the famous Westerkerk church from our balcony. The breakfast room was charming, full of plants and with a beautiful view of the Canal. Breakfast was simple, but satisfying. We asked for hot chocolate every morning that they happily prepared for us.

We found the staff to be extremely friendly, pleasant and very helpful all of the time. There was a candy bowl in the reception room, which my husband helped himself every time he passed by. On the last day, Osam took a handful of the candies and put it into my husband’s pocket.

Across the street from Nadia, there is Jennifer Croissanterie, a nice little place for espressos, cappuccinos, hot chocolate and sandwiches.

Overall, this is a great budget hotel in the center of a beautiful city. Teresa & Jose.

The hotel is nicely located (10 minutes walk from Central Station), and is run by an Indian family that don't allow groups of more than 5 men, or solo travelers taking "companions" to the rooms. On the other hand, they'll let you smoke whatever you want inside the room (like my neighbors did). Definitely not a problem if you don't mind sleeping with the window open at 3°C and hearing people screaming in the streets all night long. The Single Room is extremely small. You may find the mattress hard as a rock... but that impression will change after you've tried the pillows. The stairs could become a problem if you're not in a good physical condition or had a few extra drinks. Breakfast was nothing special: coffee, orange juice, assorted breads and cheese. In conclusion, a hotel for young budget travelers that are willing to overcome some of these situations. Oh, just for the record, I'm 24 and I'm a budget traveler.

A very friendly place to stay. Although the room was small (#7), it was clean, lots of light through an entire wall of windows, and with a nice view to the canal. No traffic noise. The hotel is not suitable for people with difficulties walking in stairs (you need to negotiate a very steep two floor staircase before reaching the reception). A plus is the included breakfast; somewhat basic, but ideal to get you going in the morning.

I don't know how much hotel rooms normally go for in Amsterdam for November weekends, but at £72 per night, this was the least good value for money of the three hotels I stayed at on this trip, which had included Paris and Bruges earlier on in the week. The room was tiny - just enough room for a bed and a wardrobe (with a safe) and for the door to open inwards, with a 14" TV suspended over the foot of the bed and a fridge perched on a shelf above it, combined with a sliver of a wet room, wide enough to allow one person to move from shower to toliet and out again. On a cost per square foot basis, it was poor value compared to my Bruges and Paris hotels, but like I say, this could be the norm for the Dam and I wouldn't know. Onto the good stuff though - the service and the friendliness of the staff was excellent. I'd been warned that the steps from the entrance were steep - and they were! Having walked down from the Centraal Station in about ten minutes, the prospect of humping my bag up those vertiginous steps was awful - but I was rescued - the voice of Tess from the reception level on the first floor saved me - they had a system that carried your bag to your room while you calmed yourself in the breakfast room. That was wonderful. The bed was narrow and I needed a second pillow to make it a comfortable night - there was little room to stretch out. Downside - the walls were very thin, it would seem. I had the TV on very quietly but still got the ominous knocking from next door each of the three nights I stayed there. The breakfast was a little spartan - no cereals, just toast and croissants, juice, tea and coffee and mini-yoghurts. But overall, this was a decent spot to stay in the Dam - perhaps not the best value though.

This is the second time that I have stayed at Hotel Nadia and on both occasions have enjoyed the relaxed and friendly atmosphere. All staff offer a warm welcome and are extremely helpful which makes visiting the City and its sites easy.

The location is perfect because it's in the centrum, but not in the middle of all it's noises. Dam square is 3 min walking distance. In the neighbourhoud is Jordaan, were u can find lots of restaurants and a classy atmosphere. We were with a 6 month baby and we received a room with an extra bed, room no 6. The view from room is great, you can see the canal, and the Wester church, also Anne Frank's house, which are on the other side of the street. Trams and buses make a good connection with all parts of the city, even you can reach them by foot. Room is not very big, but cosy, perfect for us, with a lot of deposit space, sheets were very clean, bathroom with a lot of space and the hot water pressure better than home. we had no problems with heating-works perfect. Breakfest room is very nice and clean, house made cakes were very tasty. The staff is the best! thanks.
