I stayed at hotel vondel for a business trip recently and enjoyed the location very much as it's close to the office and my old flat when I lived in the city so I know the public transport and area very well.
I liked the idea of the room, such as the modern amenities, decent sized rain shower, and the tall bed. However, the cleanliness level was not up to par. I wasn't as bothered on the first night by the random stains and marks on the floor and chair because these things happen. As long as the bed is clean, I am happy enough. However even the bed was so so! The second night I figured they wouldn't have changed the sheets, but they had, and replaced them with a pair of stained blue/black sheets with moldy specks and these VERY large and noticeable stains were right near where my shoulder and head would go- and yes, even below the pillow so it's not like I could just cover it with the pillow. It was late when I got in, so I just threw a towel over all of it, but I felt so itchy while I slept and couldn't get a restful night of sleep as I couldn't figure out what the stains were and felt icky all night. I was also eaten alive by mosquitos despite keeping the windows closed... and had to try and hunt them down each night before bed. Amsterdam is a mosquito-y city in the summer, trust me, this is no surprise to me. But with AC in the room, why were the windows getting opened at all?? I had to go to a business meeting with my eyelid swollen as one got me square on the face while I slept.
Everything else seemed fine though- staff was really nice. Again, it has the potential to be even better if they'd go in and do a few updates/clean some things up.

Dear ElexSM,

Thank you for your review on Tripadvisor.com. We appreciate that you took the time to share your experience with us.

It is very nice to read that you've enjoyed hotels location and also the staff. We are always here to help our guests to find the best solutions to their needs.

We are sorry about the inconvenience with the mosquitos and the stains on the bedding. That is truly unusual that you had stains on your bed sheets because they are usually checked by the houskeeping personal to escape situations like this. We are going to inform the houskeeping that they have to pay more atention to details like that. And we are also sorry about the mosquitos, no matter how hard we try to keep them out of the hotel, somehow they manage to get in.
We are sorry about the inconveniences and we hope to welcome you back in Amsterdam and of course in Hotel Vondel.

With kind regards,

Ari - Team Hotel Vondel

Stayed here last week as wanted to try out a different hotel. Really loved the place. The location worked very well for me; hotel is centrally located and close to tram 5 to head out to WTC/financial district. Loved the "Huiskamer " (home lounge ) atmosphere: the cosy room, lovely restaurant, good breakfast, friendly service. Have booked my next stay already:)

The hotel staff were friendly and we were upgraded from basement to the top floor on arrival which was nice and it even included a jacuzzi bath. The hotel is also located pretty centrally. However I would say it was quite expensive for what it was - could do with a lick of paint - curtains were damaged and carpet had a rip in Amsterdam is a cracking place though!

Our travel agent found this hotel for us and we weren't disappointed, its rather quirky, spread over seven (?) terrace houses and we were on the 5th flr in a junior suite, which was fabulous after a very long flight. Yep there's a lift! We didn't use the in-house restaurant but preferred to explore the neighbourhood and found Hap-Hmm and The Pantry nearby. Curiously there is an oversized spa-bath and a dinky little shower in the bathroom but overall quiet and comfortable, with good wifi.
