“location excellent, good stay overall”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

stayed one night family of four with 2 teenagers. quadruple room was on the second floor, v spacious facing inward. unlike previous reviews we had no noise problem at all. however, other hotel guests moving along the corridor to their room adjacent to ours shook the floor a little! due to thin walls, old building i presume. furniture a little tired but all functional. bathroom grouting could have done with a good scrub but overall cleanliness v good.reception staff excellent. we used the luggage storage as we carried no valuables but previous reviewer was correct in saying that no one polices this facility.the door may be locked but anyone could ask for the key. the location is excellent, right on the doorstep of the old town and red light district. 5-10 mins walk from central railway station/coach drop off point( if you have come from rotterdam europort with P+O ferries).we stayed with a couple who had a first floor room backing onto the street. they found it noisy as had irish bar behind and all smokers out for a chat and a sing-song! lovely bar 1 min from hotel for night cap as hotel one devoid of jollity.

Room Tip: higher floor , inward facing

Clean but needs modernising. We had room for family of 4 with 4 single beds. Room was large in size with TV, bathroom (needs updating big time), room also a bit dark with a few bulbs working. Room service was v.good. Pity some guests smoke in the rooms leaving horrible stubs outside the window. Uch no respect.

All staff were courteous and helpful.

Location of Tulip Inn is excellent, 5 mins walk to Dam Square, Red Light District and loads of lovely restaurants. Special mention to The Smallest Pub in Amsterdam just off Dam Square, brill to hang out here.

Luggage room is locked but key handed out to anyone who asked for it! No ticket system which made us feel a bit awkward about leaving stuff there.

All in all 3 star hotel so don't expect 5 star, they are available but not at this price and this location.

I honestly cant complain about this hotel.stayed 2 nights with my 15 year old daughter and from check in felt welcome, all staff very polite and spoke perfect english. room 313 was big, clean, warm, nothing to moan about.
Location wise, you cant get much better, just 1 street from old town and round the corner from red light district!
didnt get much noise despite our room overlooking the street and the church, nothing to disturb us.bed comfy, big pillows too.
they will keep your luggage in a free luggage room which is locked, they cant do much more than that. safe in room was free.
breakfast was ok,hot, reasonable choice (weird shredded bacon though!)
I work as a travel agent and would recomend this hotel to my customers, purely for location and service.
The only odd thing was our room always smelt strange....but then we were in Amsterdam!!

Room Tip: room 313 was lovely,no mice

We walked from the Central Railway Station to the hotel, taking a somewhat circuitous route because we did not klnoiw where we were going. In fact the hotel is about a 5 minute walk from the railway station! It is located about one block of one of the main streets oin Amsterdam, and a block from the red light district. There was some noise late in the evening as the late night revelers headed for their residences, but it was not unacceptable. The hotel itself was excellent with good clean rooms of a reasonable size. Reception staff were friendly and addressed all our questions quickly and thoroughly. Breakfast was well done ... i don't know why people were complaining in some previous reviews we read, but we had no complaints at all, either for service, quality or quantity of food.

OK, it's a budget hotel. I didn't expect luxury or anything spectacular. It would be nice to think that a budget hotel could provide clean and comfortable accommodation and peace and quiet in which to sleep. The Tulip Inn managed to fail on all these counts, as well as messing up the booking.
To be fair, cleanliness was not too bad (even if not brilliant) but the bed might as well have been a plank of wood. The room had a window onto an internal void rather than a street - so you might expect it to be quiet. On the contrary, we listened to others with rooms using the same void until around 4am. They weren't shouting, it was just that the acoustic seemed to magnify everything. Might have been able to ignore and sleep if the bed hadn't been so very uncomfortable.
We had ordered a double room and this was a twin - but a long thin twin so the beds were slotted in end to end rather than beside each other. You had to negotiate about three flights of steps (as well as the elevator) to reach the room, so when I mentioned the error and was told we couldn't move the first night but could swap in the morning I initially thought it would be a good idea - but frankly we were both so dispirited, tired and aching after the first night that I lost the motivation to move everything up and down stairs with the prospect of a result that would be no better - we both felt beaten into submission.
When we checked out, I wanted to leave the luggage to pick up later, but was handed a key to a storage room that had a sign stating that the hotel took no responsibility for anything left there. As, presumably, others would also just be handed the key, we decided to move everything to the left luggage facility at the central station, preferring to pay rather than leave the luggage (including a laptop) insecure.
Wild horses won't drag me back there again - but in the interests of fairness, I should mention that the staff were pleasant and helpful whenever possible and the breakfast buffet was OK, with a good choice, reasonably fresh and plentiful.

Room Tip: Watch out for rooms that have windows looking onto an internal void. They might not be as peaceful...

Great location for everything. The rooms are clean and staff are helpful. It does as a good base for seeing this great city. Ignore all these bad reviews. Also it is very reasonable priced for a room right in the centre of amsterdam
