“Great location for your first trip to Amsterdam”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2011

Rooms are very small for the price - but it seems to be usual in Amsterdam. The location is excellent - we were visiting as tourists and we were able to do everything walking, as most tourist sights are nearby. Internet access is available but very expensive. On the first morning shower didn't have hot water, and there was no air conditioner in our room - and unexpectedly, we got very hot days while there. 10 EUR for their breakfast is honest.

stayed here for one night with my husband and 4 other friends and we loved it.
the hotel is set in a great spot close to everything and all in walking distance.
rooms are basic but clean. clean towels and bedding daily. tv with plenty of english channels (should you be spending time in your room).
amsterdam is a wicked city, plenty to do and see. im hoping to return next year and i would definatly stay i the hotel nes again.

Would not recommend. Very run down rooms at a way too high price. Unfriendly front of house staff.

I found this hotel as it was listed in a New York Times list of budget hotels in Amsterdam, and as it was a last minute trip I was glad to get a room at all; the cost (95 euros per night) for a capital city was fair enough. The location is excellent. My room was clean, plenty of hot water, there was a hairdryer in the bathroom, staff were courteous, and I slept well. However, a small room here really does mean small, it makes London hotel rooms look palatial. Despite the fabulous photos and promotion of canal views on the website and even the promotional materials in the hotel itself, there are NO single rooms with a canal view; rather, single travellers are sent to the tiny rooms where it's best just to keep the curtains closed or you'll be looking through someone else's hotel window. Although breakfast was basic it was typical of many European budget hotels and perfectly acceptable, but definitely not worth the 10 euros charged for it. The cafe at the corner is excellent, for food or a quiet drink. If you're realistic about what to expect then this is a clean and comfortable budget hotel. If you're travelling solo and opt for a single room then be prepared for a view very different from the website. For just a very little more money I suspect it's possible to a better deal, especially off-season as I was.

I wasn't put off by other reviews speaking of small rooms, etc, as i've been to amsterdam before, but perhaps i should have read a few more - how the hotel can charge €160 a night for a grim room, with ruined 1980s chipboard furniture, a TV set the size of a shoe box, a bath so close to the eaves it wasn't actually possible to shower without lying semi-prone, and then asking an extra €10 for breakfast.
uncomfortable bed, and those freakishly sized 3/4 width duvets completed the disappointing picture.
Amsterdam is a fine town, with some glorious hotels - this isn't one of them.

Had severe difficulty getting a central hotel because the Amsterdam marathon was on the weekend we were there, so settled on Nes because of the location....which is unbeatable!
Easy to get to from central station, close to everything, yet in a nice, quite enough area, the location is really perfect.

The rooms are very small, basic but clean, a good 2 star - the problem was the 3 or 4 star price we paid! Totally overpriced the weekend I was there, but if I got it for about 85 euro I'd be happy enough.

Didn't have breakfast so can't comment, but staff were pleasant - had a huge selection of phone chargers, which we could keep until check out.

Overall, great location, pity about the price.

Hello! I wanna talk about Hotel Nes- in Amsterdam! It has an excellent location!!! The rooms are small with sparse furniture, but the view out the window was delicious(to the canal)! Breakfast was also modest. I recommend this hotel to those who plan to "economical" trip.
In general, I really liked it! It was no problems with him!
Good luck!
