“Great location/Hot in the Summer”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

Stayed here with a couple of friends in early July. The room was in a great location, comfortable, and affordable. Compared with the other options in our price range this was a home run. We were all new to the city and the staff was very helpful in pointing us in the right direction. The one complaint is that the rooms can get pretty hot at night and since we were on the street, opening the window wasn't an option if you wanted to sleep-in in the morning. Overall the hotel was great and I would recommend it to my friends.

Dear Sir,

We are really happy to hear that you liked your stay in Hotel de Gerstekorrel! Regarding the windows - Good news is that we have just renovated the windows and now they can be opened totally. Even during the nice and hot summer days it should be not too warm in the room anymore.
Unfortunately for the noise from the streets in the center we can not do anything.... sorry....
Hope to see you soon again!

Stayed here for long weekend. We did not book in advance, we turned up ourselves and booked a double room for 3 nights stay. This hotel is situated in the heart of everything which is on your doorstep. We could have opted for breakfast to be served in our room but we chose to eat out. Fantastic place to stay. We will be coming back again and we would stay here again as we were delighted overall with everything.

My girlfriend and I booked this hotel through Dfds for our anniversary break. Perfect location very comfortable beds. Our room overlooked the street below so was fairly noisy. Shower/toilet was very small. Pleasant staff and nice breakfast.

Stayed here as part of a weekend city break with DFDS seaways, found it to be a decent hotel for the price we paid (hard to say what exactly was the cost of just the room as we had a package deal). Clean but basic rooms, good location just off the main square and only a few minutes walk to all the local attractions. They also have a luggage room which you are OK to leave your bags in before you check in or after you check out if your transport isn't coming for a few hours. Would stay here again if doing Amsterdam on a budget.

Couple of points - it is on a busy main road so if you're a bit warm and need to open the windows you have zero chance of getting any sleep (lots of noise until 4-5am when we stayed) so if you think that might be a problem then bring ear plugs. Also if you book a room for 3 people be aware that is 1 single and 1 double bed (with 2 single blankets) not 3 single beds.

The location can't be better it was near everything, bars, stores, red light, coffeshops, monumentes and central station. The room was good, clean and quiet. People where friendly and very nice, i liked it a lot. We didnt hear any noise at night, and the last day they keep our bags till the hour we had to go out of Amsterdam.

I booked this hotel as it was very central and as accomodation only. It has 2 accomodation blocks, one being within the actual hotel with reception and a coffee maker the other down the street a little bit. Our first room was on the 3rd floor of the 2nd block and as both my sister and myself are 50 + found the typically dutch stairs a little steep. We asked to be moved and as there were no twin rooms available paid a small extra charge to have a triple room. We fond that there were no Tea/Coffee facilities in the room and we had to ask for a hairdryer, which we were given immediately. Although the beds were indeed comfy the pillows were not and the heat in that particular room was almost unbearable.( although there was a table fan) The staff however are fantastic. They made us very welcome, and were happy to help at any hour of the day (24hr reception). The hotel was on absuy street with lots of choice for eating out. i would consider staying again but would almost certainly ask to see the room first. All in all a good budget hotel.

Such a great price and is in a great location, right in the heart of everything! The room was great value for money although the only problem I had was that on the first night it was pretty hot because of the humidity outside but other than that and the stairs which was only really a problem when coming in from a night out it was brilliant, would definitely recommend and will be booking again soon!
