“Great spot for a First Timer in Amsterdam!”
Reviewed May 11, 2013 via mobile

Stayed in AMS prior to my London Visit.

Location is great, I would say nearly anything and everything is a 15 minute walk. Close enough where you are walking through the streets with the canals and homes with personality.

Service, first off I arrived at 10 am, not sure what is check in - but a after speaking to the front desk they immediately told me what rooms were available. In addition they disclosed that the 1st floor gets street noise (technically their 1st floor is on the second floor of the building).

I didn't mind the street noise as I am one that hibernates - it was a nice gesture for them to have earplugs in the room.

Breakfast in the morning really hit the spot. All fresh ingredients , not too much or too little.

If you are an early riser with an empty stomach the 7:00 am breakfast start is the best AMS gets. No restaurants open prior to 7.

Overall nice place - I do recommend it. Just keep in mind the website makes the place look hip n chic but that couldn't be any further from the truth. There is tons of dust on those wine bottles and the bar is weak.

Great free coffee in the morning and friendly staff.

The Albus is a very well located to all of the museums, historical areas, Palace, shopping, restaurants. It is a completely remodeled hotel. It is the embodiment of form over function. It is really contemporary and well done. There is free espresso in your room. The service was very good. Functionality is compromised for style, however, so if you are looking for a cozy bed and breakfast location, this is NOT the one for you.

Room Tip: We only saw the room we stayed in on the first floor. They do have suites and other options as well.

We booked a double room in January for a May arrival and they still gave us one of the worst rooms-facing the street. We phoned ahead to check our reservation but the person who answered could not speak English well enough to even copy down a phone number and we never got a call back. We asked for single beds but got a king sized one (for two friends) and had to change the room, however, they told us nothing was available, but when we went on the website they were advertising rooms with single beds?! So we had to go back down to the front desk and ask once more for a different room. The buffet breakfast was a very poor selection for a high price, 19 euros. The bathroom was ridiculously small and more of a wet room that made the floor dangerously slippery and there was an unpleasant smell. When we complained that the noisy rooms were not part of the website information, the front desk person said there were earplugs and double glazing and that made it OK. I would strongly NOT recommend this hotel.

I apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced during your stay at the Albus.
Yes, we should have called you back but without having a phone number taken by our bad speaking and understanding English night porter is hard to do.
We have double and twin beds in our room. Both can be reserved on forehand through our Reservation site. The reception staff tried to do their utmost to give you a twin room when you arrived but when a small hotel is fully booked it’s hard to achieve this.
It’s a pity that you didn’t like our breakfast with healthy tidbits and fresh smoothies and a range of organic and local biological products we deliver while being eco-friendly at the same time!
Our rooms are not noisy with double glazing and the windows closed. The moment you open the vent in the window, noise will come in. For that reason we provide our guests with earplugs. Unfortunately, that is one of these negative things you can experience when you are staying in the centre of a city.

Great location: Rijksmuseum 2 minutes; canal walks to Dam Sq and the rest of the old quarters, at the door. The hotel? Staff very friendly but not in your face; room service quick and not deathbed money; terrific restaurant menu (we actually, went out but I'd have loved to sample here) and room very comfortable and clean. We're here on a less than top priced package, found over the Net. But we could'nt have done better at twice the price. Stephen and Kathryn

The staff were friendly, professional and helpful. The location is hard to beat but beware of rooms facing the street! We were on the 6th floor & even in late winter/early spring the room was hot enough during the night that we had to have a fan (thoughtfully provided, along with earplugs) on all night. We tried opening the window but the noise from the street below defeated us (hence the earplugs).

I'd stay there again happily....as long as I had a room NOT facing the street.

The excellent location, the quality of the rooms and most of all the friendliness of the staff makes this hotel a sure and perfect choice. I've stayed a couple of times, and so have many friends, at this hotel and I can easly recommend it.

Room Tip: Request a room in the back to a enjoy a quiet room. The front can be very noisy due to road traffic

I thoroughly enjoyed staying here and I have already recommended it to friends. I'm hoping to come back to Amsterdam in the Autumn for a weekend break rather than business and I'd be looking to stay here again. The service was excellent, staff were very friendly, breakfast was great and plenty of it and the rooms were luxurious. The location is also perfect, right around the corner from the restaurants, bars and clubs on Rembrandtsplein.
