“Much is Forgiven”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

In a nutshell, the room was horrible but the service was great. This hotel was quite well-located for first-time Amsterdam tourists. The front desk staff were so helpful with anything we needed. However, I'm not sure their attitude is unique to this hotel or just a function of the fact that every Dutch person we met on a 10-day trip around Holland spoke perfect English and was super friendly. They are all also quite athletic so we learned from the front desk staff that when they said a place was "a 4 minute walk" it really took much longer. I finally caught on when all attractions were deemed to be 4 minutes away.
The room that they rate as 3 stars in Europe wouldn't even merit one star in the US. Granted it is a city hotel, but there was almost literally no space to walk around the bed or turn around in the bathroom. The room card controlled the electricity, so every time we left, the clock turned off and needed re-setting. The twin beds were soft and saggy, with a comforter too short for the length of the bed. There was no sheet other than the sham, a bit gross as it's hard to believe they wash it every time between guests. The towels were paper-thin and scratchy. The walls had no noise barrier. One night inebriated tourists from another English-speaking country ( name of which will be withheld) were in the hallway making a ton of noise until 2 AM. They wouldn't quiet down with requests from other guests or the staff.
However, the breakfast room was lovely, and there was a good if plain assortment of foods. There was a free computer to send e-mails home. We had a room in the back without street noise and the elevator was never delayed. The tram stopped right in front for quick access to the airport and other locales. Would I stay here again? Not at any price. We paid almost 200 per night but even at half that I would choose comfort over convenience the next time.

Firstly the location is great, 10 mins walk to central station, 5 minutes the other way to Dam square and 10 minutes straight on to the red light district.
The downstairs and entrance of the hotel were nice, but the room - Well our at least did not meet the same level.

We were in a triple room at 225 euros per night.
Wifi has to be paid for. The room was tiny and freeeeezing!
On a positive the bathroom wasn nice and very clean.

Reception staff were abprupt and breakfast staff were rude, although the breakfast was nice and alot of option.

Overall, it was OK, but id maybe look elsewhere for my next visit.

Stayed for 2 nights, location is as good as it gets, 3 minutes from Central Station and within walking distance of all the major sights. Room 15 on first floor was extremely small, and sooo dark, large window looked out on a brick wall, impossible to see sky unless stretching neck out. Made the room really dark, need lights on all the time, didn't help room painted purple, made us feel claustrophobic. Apart from this, the beds were comfortable, had a good bathroom, excellent power shower and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was average, orange juice really watery but coffee good. A reasonable selection of ham, cheeses etc. For 3 star it was perfectly acceptable, accommodation in Amsterdam overpriced anyway so seemed expensive at £145 a night but is compatible with similar accommodation in this area.

Room Tip: Ask for one that has a window that looks out on the street.

This hotel was perfect for my stay in Amsterdam. I went on Easter weekend 2013. It is about 10 minute walk from the Central Station and 10 minute walk in the other direction to Dam Square so is ideal location. The room me and a friend stayed in was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed. It had a walk in shower which I had read a few bad reviews about but the water drained away fairly quickly but we didnt spend enough time in the room to pick faults. Breakfast was just a continental buffet but again it is close to the centre to find somewhere to eat out. The staff were friendly and very helpful with directions to different attractions i wanted to visit.

I would recommend this hotel and would stay again when I go back :)
