“Would stay again...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 23, 2013

Three couples, such different rooms... one large, ground floor with bathroom (inc.bath), one on the fourth floor, with bath, ours on the third floor, probably the smallest room I've ever stayed in... tiny bathroom with shower...bed pushed against one wall...

Nonetheless, we were only using it as a base for exploring the City and as such the Eden "did a job"

Clean enough, breakfast was fine, plenty of variety...

Friendly staff, no language problems, Concierge particularly helpful..

Some of our group enjoyed a late night drink in the piano bar..

Would stay again....

Dear guest,

Thank you for your review and your kind words. Indeed our Standard Rooms are fitted with a bath or shower and due to the history of our building the layout can slightly differ per room.
For your next stay you can always inform us in advance or inform the Front Desk staff at check-in with your preferences, they will me happy to accommodate you with a room that meets them.

We hope to see you back at the Hampshire Eden Hotel Amsterdam in the near future. For now we wish you all the best

Pros: Location is very central front facing Amstel canal and with Rembrandtplein just one street back. Good location for catching the No. 5 and No. 9 trams or just for food n night out as there is a nice selection of restaurants and bars. Easy to get to from central station (no.9 tram) or 20minutes walk down Damtrak past Dam square and Rokin follow Amstel canal and it will lead you to the hotel. Amsterdam is quite small so All tourist sites Within walking distance, especially from the hotel's central location. Concierge is probably the best and most helpful ever. Basically just a nice guy. Also tv is quite good with a big selection of channels from different countries. Other things close by are the Ice bar, Flower market just along from Rembrandt square (just aim for the clock tower) and flower market (near the opera house just on the opposite side of the canal) the selection of stalls and offerings were rather underwhelming and not as large as i expected, so if you aim low you may not be as disapointed as me. Although we had a tiny room on the first floor, it was however quite comfortable and our initial fears of street noise and disapointment on being so low did not manifest.

Things that need improving: As mentioned the standard rooms are very very small with an equally small ensuite. May be an issue for larger guest. the with toilet bowl being so close to the wall, one would have to sit with their legs apart. Carpets were not vacuum very well and did not improve much during our 3 night stay even though due to the size of the room there wasn't a lot of expose floor to vaccum. Reception staff not the most friendly, very straight face not welcoming. Wifi only free in reception, pricey surcharge for room usage. Our first floor room was still able to get a weak reception wifi signal. Which was a kinda redemption as the reception lady told us that they couldn't move us to a higher floor because the hotel was full, but next day was quite happy to upgrade another guest who was just checking in with a standard room to an apartment for free, hrmmm. Also the it might have been a blessing not getting a canal side room as the hotel was under going renovation at the front so privacy may have been compromised, so my tiny inward facing room that lacks space and light might not have been too bad after all especially when we still can get free reception wifi.
Another thing is that there was no tea coffee making facilities in the room, I do not know if this is common in the Netherlands. But it would have been nice to have a cup of tea when I got back from a day out or first thing in the morning.

To summarise, Location is perfect as it is right in the center of Amsterdam, public areas in hotel are good, standard rooms a bit small, may be if i come back I shall book a superior room. lots to do near by.

Room Tip: book a superior room and try and get a 1st floor room to tap in on the reception's free wifi

I've been there with my girlfriend for 3 days and our impression was good. Clean and nice room, good position and price. The only downside it's the breakfast not included.
If i'll return in Amsterdam in future, probably i'll come back here.

Short city break. Excellent location for city break. Food very good. Break marred by noise during the evening and night due to bins being emptied in rear yard by staff. This was very disruptive. We will not stay here again

We travelled with another couple and picked this hotel more by luck than judgement, but it was perfect . Five minutes from Waterlooplein metro and between Rembrant place and the Amstel, very central , an enjoyable pleasant walk to everywhere. Friendly, helpful staff, clean, comfortable rooms, not to big, but big enough , maybe a little functional, but we don't mind that. Nice bathrooms with lots of hot water. No fridge and would have liked an in-room tea/coffee set-up. Very comfortable beds. Nice piano/cocktail bar to finish the evening off, reasonably priced.
This hotel will be our first choice when we go back to Amsterdam. ,
