We loved the AMS Radisson Blu hotel! Although it is near Dam Square and the more tourist-traveled areas, the hotel itself is situated on Rusland, a quiet little street with three coffeeshops within footsteps from the front door (if you're into that sort of thing) and a cute little food mart that made the best tosti sandwiches ever! We began each day with a tosti and ended each day with a trip to Cafe Rusland and then a nightcap at the beautiful hotel bar. We loved that bar -- quiet, romantic, good service, food available, nice wines. The rooms were well-appointed with comfy beds and nice linens, flat screen TV (I wish it had CNN!), a Nespresso machine (it was temperamental), and a modern clean bathroom. The rooms were a bit larger than what I've grown to expect from European hotels. The room had a few cool lamps and overall had modern clean decor. The staff here were helpful in that very Dutch way of being helpful. "You go here, you figure it out, it's a ten minutes walk." People who live in AMS always say everywhere is "less than ten minutes walk". Between the location and the lovely rooms and the hotel bar, we will absolutely stay here for our next visit to AMS.

Room Tip: Our room was upgraded to business class and was in the adjacent building connected through the botto...

Arrived Amsterdam from Hong Kong by CX flight at 6:45 a.m. on 31st July, 2012. Stayed there for 2 nights. The hotel was selected by our own research as being close to the city centre, and was booked and prepaid via our HK travel agent at around HK$4,000 all in for 2 nighs' stay.

It was a rough flight out of HK and medium strength turbulence was a constant feature for at least 6 out of the 11 hrs flight, quite uncomfortable.

Passport control at Schipol airport was a breeze as was collecting our luggage, everything was very efficient.
It seemed like 30 minutes by cab from Schipol airport to the hotel. Cab fare was Euros 52 which we had no idea whether it was the right fare but it seemed reasonable to us.Time of arrival at hotel was about 8 am.
Requested early check-in and was advised to wait until 10:30 am, and sure enough a room on 1st floor was given to us at 10:00 am. That was very decent of them, as most hotels would automatically ask early arriving guests to wait until noon if not later to access the room.

The room was reasonable sized and measured just under 300 sq ft. There were 3 steps to go up to the main bedroom whereas the bathroom was located at the lower level. This did not cause any problem to us though it could be potentially dangerous for someone less alert when getting to the bathroom in the middle of the night. The room was quiet and looked out to the entrance of an University of Amsterdam building.

Breakfast was served in the building opposite the main hotel building on Rusland St. Access was via the lift at lobby floor to basement level, had to walk underneath the street and then re-surface on the other side. The quality of breakfast was good, we especially like the small sausages with crispy skin. Coffee was served by way of a large jug with maybe 4 cups' fill, and that eliminated the need to ask the waiters for refills, quite a good system.

The main shopping is Kalverstraad which is near the street selling flowers. Shops are small to mid-size in Kalverstraad, nothing particularly interesting. The largest dept store Magna Plaza which is also unexciting.
Visted Rembrant's Old House which is frankly a waste of time and money ( Eur 10 entry fee for basically nothing to see ), also visited Van Gogh's museum which is slightly better ( Eur 14 entry fee per person).
Also took a walk on Vondel park which is similar to Hyde Park of London.

Bicyles criss cross the city and people riding bicycles obviously thought they own the place as they zoomed around inches from crashing into pedestrians.

The hotel is very well located close to Dam Square and the centre of town which we really liked. They have great staff which makes the place so much more enjoyable and add to the overall experience. Thank you Aprilla, Kim, Linda and Nicolette for making our stay a pleasant and memorable one. The rooms are abit dated for our liking but we had a spacious enough suite and it was very clean. The complimentary breakfast was excellent and had many great choices.

Had the pleasure of staying at the Radisson for 2 nights. When we checked in we were offered an upgrade to the Business rooms which is located in the other building. Rooms were very clean, large for european standards, beds were very comfortable and can not say enough about the location of this property.

Safe, within walking distance of all major tourist attractions, great restaurants and cafes located nearby.

We had breakfast included with our room and it was really good. Lots of choices and very fresh for a buffet style.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again!

Stayed for an extended weekend. About 3 min walk to Dam Square and the city centre. Very convenient yet in a quieter part of the city. No window view as facing roof's but that meant it was nice and quiet which is important to me. Room itself was excellent. 42" flat TV not Just with BBC and Channel 4 but premier film channels so you can watch pretty new films for free. Only issue was the drainage in the shower seemed slow so the water accumulated a bit but other than that, it was a great room. Breakfast was good and plentiful (buffet). Air conditioning in room easy to use and lifts very prompt. Got this stay on a rare deal (but still expensive for me) and not sure I could afford to stay here again but if I could get a deal and it co incided with a reason, then I'd love to stay here again. Recommended if you can afford it.

Great location 15 minute walk from the main train station, situated in a quiet part of the city centre close to the red light district and easy walking distance to Dam Square. Lovely breakfast with a good selection, it is a buffet style and is well stocked with cereals, fruits, yoghurts, cheeses, cold meats, hot food including bacon, eggs, sausages, pancakes and breads. The room was a Superior Double Room and was more than accommodating and came with a big flat screen TV, mini bar, iron/ironing board etc. The bathroom was reasonably sized also and comes supplied with soaps, shampoos etc. And free internet use. If you have a late flight ask for a late checkout we got one till 3pm which helped a lot, would I stay again, yes
