My husband and I stayed at Banks Mansion in the beginning and end of our of our three week trip through Europe. We would recommend this hotel to everyone! Our first room was very comfortable, clean and worked very well for us...but a bit small and a little louder as it was facing the street traffic and a train or tram went past us throughout the night. Our second room was great as it was quieter, larger and not facing the street. It didn't have much of a view but we didn't care as it was justva place to sleep anyway. The bed's are very comfortable - my husband is 6 ft 4 in. We stayed over New Years Eve and even with the craziness of New Years, it was very quiet and peaceful. The hotel is worth staying at. The staff is very accommodating, helping us to plan excursions, make dinner reservations, provide walking directions, etc. The lobby provides free Internet for all ( or you can pay for wifi in your room)and also a fully stocked bar with everything from Beck's beer to baileys to scotch, etc and it's all on the house. Included free of cost. Also water, juice and soft drinks, etc. The lobby has a wonderful seating area with a large fireplace. You can also eat or drink anything from your hotel room refrigerator at no cost as well. The location is only a 10-15 minute pleasant walk into Dam Square, the city center. We chose this hotel because it was close enough to the action but quieter than being in the hustle and bustle of the city. If you don't mind walking, it's very accessible to all the attractions.....we walked to Anne Franks, Rembrandt Square, central station, .....everywhere is walking distance with good walking shoes. Otherwise, you can take the local shuttles, taxis, trams everywhere. New Years Eve in Amsterdam is spectacular and crazy! We walked into Dam Square, had dinner there, which the hotel called in a reservation for us, walked around the red light district and stood among tens of thousands of people in Dam Square when the clock struck midnight! It was insanely fun! When you arrive into AMS airport, find the Connexxion counter and they can provide roundtrip transfers to the hotel and back to the airport for 24,50 euro per person...or you can take a taxi but not sure of the cost. It's about a 20-30 minute drive to the hotel from the airport. After both stays, we found ourselves very well rested and will stay there again for sure!

Didnt book a hotel as we just wanted to turn up and see what happened, all part of the road trip.

When i first saw this place i thought it was pricey £199 p/n
That was until they told me the bar downstairs was free as was the Mini bar in my room, to make matters even better, the breakfsat was also free ( and what a breakfast )

The room was amazing, i got a single room which included a view of the River, a very good size bed, a very large bathroom with shower ( the lads who had a double room with 2 beds got a shower and a massive bath), TV with both Dutch and English TV and a DVD player...the bed was one of the most comfortable ive had when staying in a hotel and the room came with ample space for clothes and a safe(free)

We unpacked and went downstairs to the bar, there is also free internet and printer..the bar is well stacked and comes with unlimited ( yes unlimited ) free drinks

The money we save on drinks, more than made up for the price of the hotel, there is also snacks always available.

Breakfast is fantastic, the young ladies made us Ham omelettes and there was also fresh meats and cereals to cjoose from aswell as some lovely fressh rolls and bread.

this is the type of place that when you find it you wonder why you stayed anywhere else

10/10 and the staff where also fantastic

2 minute walk to bars and clubs

We had to wait when we arrived because our room wasn't ready. They didn't have any dry ginger (for my wife's brandy). The lobby carpets have a terrible pattern. There was only one lift. The room would have benefitted from some brighter light.

That's it - can't think of anything else bad to mention. When we arrived it was before normal check in time and we waited all of 15 minutes to access the room.

Just trying to see how easy it is to write a bad review and I have to say it's quite difficult to do that with this hotel. I thought it was clean, friendly, efficient and comfortable. We've stayed at hotels in other European cities and this one compares favourably with all of them.

Location is very good--close enough to central touristy stuff but also near to edgier neighborhoods like De Pijp. They create a nice atmosphere in the lobby with a fireplace, free drinks, cheese plate at night, etc. The rooms are nicely outfitted, though smaller and darker than I would have liked. The standard rooms seem to all have only one relatively small window at the front. Ceilings are pretty low.

A couple of things I did not like:

They make this big deal about everything being included in the room price (drinks, snacks, beer, wine, etc.) but then they charge a very high price for something that most travelers need/want as much as a free sparkling water: the internet. They do give you 50 minutes free, but that goes fast, especially if you're working. After that the price is too high.

The front desk staff were quite polite but did not know some very basic things about the city. For example I wanted to go to a pharmacy and it was about 5:30pm. I asked the person at the front desk and she said i could try one place around the corner but actually every pharmacy in the city was probably closed. I asked at a shop next door and they directed me to a place close by that was open until 11pm every night of the year. The front desk should know this or be able to find it out. Similarly I was jet-lagged and asked about where I could eat out late at night. Again I was told that there is nothing in the city open after 10pm. Simply not true. I had the feeling that the front desk staff didn't feel like it was their job to learn anything about the city except the most obvious stuff. I was told by more than one person at the front that I should just google something they didn't know about. When I come to a hotel at this price level I expect the staff to know more about the city or at least to go out of their way to find out more.

Fabulous hotel. Staff friendly and welcoming; the communal area with a roaring fire was a pleasure to return home to. We had a canal view room which was lovely, not huge – but more than adequate and full of character. Location was perfect; close enough to walk to most places – but far enough away from night-time noise. There were a number of good restaurants on Utrechtsestraat (10 minute walk from the hotel) we particularly enjoyed Alfonsos, Mexican Restaurant.

Banks Mansion exceeded all expectations. Our room was lovely, quiet, very comfortable with all amenities. The staff was exceedingly helpful with dinner reservations and event tickets. Breakfast is wonderful - a selection of pastries and breads, cereals, fruit, yogurt, omelets and pannnekoeken (dutch pancakes). The location is perfect - a 10-15 minute walk to the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum, Museum of Bags and Purses, Museum Van Loon, Museum Willet-Holthuysen and slightly longer to the Rembrandt, Jewish Historical Museum and Anne Frank House. It is a perfect base from which to explore Amsterdam. There are numerous restaurants in the area. I would not hesitate to recommend Banks Mansion.
