“Fading hotel, good staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 24, 2013

If you're used to the shiny new Park Plazas in London then the Victoria will come as a bit of a shock. Once this would have been a rather grand railway hotel, sitting just across from Amsterdam central station. Now it feels it's age, and it clearly hasn't been updated for a while - an example being the ageing bathroom fixtures and another the wallpaper worn away where furniture has rubbed against it...

The staff try hard, and are very helpful, but if there was ever a case for major investment by the chain, this is it.

Good:
Location
Staff

Bad:
Tired, old hotel
Internet a bit patchy

You take your life in your hands getting from Centraal station to this hotel across tram tracks, roads and cycle paths but it is worth it! Fantastic location, excellent facilities, good food and ambience. Rooms very modern and comfortable if a little on the dark side. I lost the key to my suitcase padlock and the concierge come to my rescue with some bolt cutters which surprised me! All staff were very friendly. The price you pay is what you would expect for a hotel of this standard.

Perfect location, everything on the doorstep, directly opposite central station, 5 minute walk to Dam Square, canal tours across the road. The hotel unfortunately is a little dated, the room we stayed in 417 was very dark and dingy, had a mezzanine level with the bed on the lower floor and toilet on the upper floor, was not great through night if having to rise to toilet as stairs very narrow, bit of a hazard really, never ate at hotel so can't comment on food, the jewel in its crown is its location.

If you're arriving in Amsterdam by train, then this hotel is perfectly located. You leave the station, you look up, you see the hotel and walk over to it in less than 5 minutes. From the hotel walk across the street to board the canal tour boats, walk 5 minutes in the opposite direction and arrive at the central square, walk 5 minutes west and arrive in the Red Light District (even if you're not a customer it's a huge tourist attraction in Amsterdam). We booked a studio room but were upgraded for a small fee to a suite which was fully featured with one exception, the suite needed better lighting for reading. The breakfast which was included in the rate was complete. The service was good, but not exceptional. The outside of the hotel is deceiving because it looks like an old classic, but the rooms inside the addition (which is most of the hotel) are very modern. Would we stay in this hotel again? Absolutely. If you're looking for charming Amsterdam, we didn't find it in this hotel. But if you're looking for excellent value in a great location, this hotel works.

I visited Amsterdam at the beginning of November. Got this hotel from my office.
It was a pleasant surprise.
The room was well equipped, beds are big, breakfast is very good.
The best of this hotel is its location. It's located in the very center of Amsterdam, walking distance from everywhere that is important to visit.
The hotel stuff is very nice and efficient. At the day I arrived there was a music show at Heineken music hall. The bellboy helped me to get tickets.

Room Tip: Some rooms are VIP and equipped with espresso machine and pods. Also , the water are free in these r...

Great location, right opposite the central station - near to everything. Breakfast was wholesome, concierge was very nice.
The stay was good, essentially because you are in a chilled out place Amsterdam, so you don't want to waste energy -
the rooms are OLD

Room Tip: great location, passable rooms

We stayed in this hotel (old part) for New Year 2012 - 2013. The hotel is in a wonderful location. Easy access for everywhere your likely to want to go.
Hotel is friendly, clean, and welcoming. Room we were in was on the small side but very cosy.
We faced the street looking over to Central Station. I could not believe the soundproofing of the windows. Imagine New Years Eve, the amount of people, the celebrations etc etc - we got into the room early hours new years day and the street was still buzzzing - could not hear a thing! Fantastic.
I recommend this hotel, you wont be dissapointed.

Room Tip: I think the new refurbished side is an updated style of room
