“amazing value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 12, 2013

I've stayed in central Amsterdam before in a few different budget hotels and hostels but much preferred this place. Staff are pleasant, breakfast is good, rooms are big and they have lifts, not those scary steep stairs! Got a surprise upgrade to a triple room which was nice. I'll definitely check the prices next time I'm in town.

We found that the rooms in this hotel were extremely large and pleasantly furnished. The restaurant was very reasonable both in quality and price. Also the price of the rooms was extremely reasonable comapred to others available in Amsterdam. It is about 30 minutes outside of Amsterdam on the tram but it is a very pleasant ride as it is through the city centre so there is plenty of people watching to be done. It was a bit difficult to find when we got off the tram but only about 10 minutes walk. I would say the main negative to this hotel is the dodgy characters who were hanging about in the doorway when we got back in the small hours - very disconcerting when you are in a strange city and we were glad to be in a big group. Apart from that good VFM and suitable for a large group.

It was very nice hotel and free parking was a bonus with tram to city center every 10 mins. Hotel staff were very friendly. Free safe room for when you check in early. Gym was very clean. Rooms with aircondition.

Hotel was difficult to find when we arrived in Amsterdam - directions from internet booking were not very helpful, apart from tram No / tram stop. It seemed a long way out of town at first, but was actually very easy to get to; well served by tram (No 17), and buses (even during the night). Cheap bed and breakfast...

My Partner, his friend and I arrived at the hotel ready to check in, there were 2 staff on, they had both noticed us, however they were just sat there talking to another customer when we were waiting! The guy took a while to check us in as he kept on answering calls. To the point where he had clearly finished checking us in as our room cards were in front of him, he answered the phone call and stayed on the phone for a good few minutes, then when finished he just passed me the keys and told me the room number!! He could've done that before!!

First thoughts on the room was that it was very clean, however the toliet seat was cracked so when you sat down it pinched your bum!

I stayed in that night as I wasn't feeling to great after an 8hr drive. Went to watch tele, however it didn't work so my partner went down to Reception to ask someone to look at it at 6pm that night. They said they'd be an hour, however they didn't turn up ALL night! I tried to call Reception using the phone, that also didn't work!

My Partner went down the next morning to complain and ask what was going wrong, with in 5 minutes the tele was working and the toilet seat was being changed.

We were also kept up all night with building work and a bloody pigeon that had nested outside our room. We did ask to move but they did nothing about it and we didn't want to bring it up again after they had fixed the tele and toilet seat.

The hotel is also about a 30 minute tram ride away from Central Amsterdam.

One evening we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant, so we caught the tram back to find out it had actually closed!!

Whilst checking out we there was no one on reception. We waited a good 5-10 minutes. 2 members of staff had walked through reception at this point, yet done nothing about it until someone actually started to look for the member of staff. When she arrived we had no apology or anything, just a "Who was first?" as there was a que she had been so long!!

The MAIN problem this hotel has is their staff. Clearly don't enjoy their jobs. Need to all be trained in customer service!
