“Exactly what I expected.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2012

I live in Tokyo and travel mostly in Asia. The level of service and hotel amenities are rarely matched in Europe or the US, but this hotel did it. The front desk and concierge staff are very helpful, the property clean and well-maintained, the rooms very comfortable, and the bathrooms proper. No shower-curtained tubs, rather all modern and spacious. Room service good, and not too overpriced. Response speed of housekeeping and room service was lightning quick. Breakfast each morning was just right with a variety of options beyond a continental, and the servers eternally cheerful and helpful. The neighborhood was quiet and residential, and the tram stop was only a 5 minute walk away, and riding the tram was one of the joys of being in Amsterdam. Yes, you could find hotels closer in to the city center, and they are charming, but they are dumpy and old in comparison to this hotel. The Okura seemed rather new. Cannot recommend highly enough. I've moved on to a new hotel in a different country in Europe, and I am sorely missing the Okura.

I booked directly with the hotel web site, and was able to get a discounted pre-paid room, as well as pre-paid Internet and breakfasts, all at good discounts. Most importantly, I opted for the 10 Euro per night upgrade to a junior suite, and got it!

My only two complaints: As a tourist, the very upscale and elite business clientele was a bit off-putting (talk about the 1%!). Also, the shower stalls always got water on the floors.

This is a beautiful hotel and absolutely worthy of 5 stars. The room was amazing, spacious and luxurious, with an exceptional bathroom. There are several restaurants at the hotel, two of them have Michelin stars, but booking early in advance is necessary, so we did not get to try any of them. The location is good, with a tram stop about 200 meters away. The staff were welcoming and very service minded. I would absolutely recommend this hotel for a luxurious weekend in Amsterdam!

Based on three separate stays i can confidently say that this is a superb hotel in all respects. The quality of the rooms and especially the bathrooms is very high in size, materials and taste. Service is seamless form the reception greeting to housekeeping and room service. The restaurants are all among the best in Amsterdam. The pool is definitely the best hotel pool here. Only unfavourable detail. the executive lounge which is poor both in furnishings and in amenities and food/drinks.

Have never reviewed a hotel on Trip Advisor before. Such an enjoyable stay at the Hotel Okura, Amsterdam, that I had to write to recommend this oasis to visitors to Amsterdam. It was a business stay, in a Superior Queen room. From the moment I arrived, until the time I left, I found all staff to be positive, helpful and amenable. When my hotel room air conditioning malfunctioned, it was checked and quickly fixed, with no fuss and apologies from desk staff the next morning for this problem. Also attended a well-run conference in the hotel. Breakfast buffet superb, conference catering excellent, including handmade cakes and chocolates. Room service fast and room service food fab! I didn't want to leave to go home! Thanks everyone at the Okura :0)

Room Tip: Stay in a superior rather than standard room.

Exceptional hotel, exceptional service. No wishes left. Excellent rooms from a design point of view, great idea with the bathroom in a glass cube (but with shaders). Verry nice view from the rooms. Excelent facilities through the whole hotel. But the staff is really what makes it perfect. Always ready to help, finding a solution, and fast in solving. Rooms were cleaned several times a day. It almost felt like someone was waiting around the corner until we went out and immediatelly, in 30 seconds, cleaned and made order in the room. Amazing!

We stayed at The Okura on the weekend of Amsterdam's worst weather for several years, and it was difficult to drag ourselves outside! The choice of four restaurants and two bars, the excellent pool/sauna/gym complex, and the beautifully furnished, luxurious room were almost too good to leave. Although it is located on the outskirts of the city, there is a convenient tram line just outside which gets to Centraal Station in 15 mins. I can't think of anything about this hotel which wasn't subtle or beautifully designed to help guests relax. Despite being a large 'business' hotel, service was attentive without being oppressive, and the executive room we had was equipped to the highest standard. The breakfast buffet was excellent, and our meal in La Serre restaurant was reasonably priced for an expensive city.
We stayed on a last-minute deal, paying less than half price, and it's worth looking out for these as the hotel is not busy at wekends. Our deal included free access to the gym/pool/sauna.
A couple of minor niggles which I hope the hotel can address - there are usually charges for the gym/pool/sauna and if I had been paying full price I would expect this to have been included. I also felt that they could have been more generous with the in-room coffee supplies; there were only six 'pods' for the coffee maker each day, and no milk or complimentary botled water. And why a charge for the wi-fi at this end of the market?

A beautifully designed hotel with excellent, friendly, and attentive service. Large rooms are well equipped with everything you might need. Some way from the centre, but easy to reach by tram. Good restaurants within walking distance. Well equipped fitness centre with large pool. A large hotel, but service is personal. Nothing to criticise!
