“Great Airport Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2010

Pick Up: Easy Mercure shuttle pick up from Schipol Airport, approx 10-15 mins ride to hotel.

Check In/Out: Staff was efficient and friendly. Provided helpful bus direction to downtown.

PUBLIC BUS: You can walk outside of the hotel and take a local bus for 2 Euros and it drops you off at Leidseplein Square. The bus ride takes approx 15-20 mins. Good to go in town for a meal or to the Albert Heijn (the supermarket). Note: There are no stores around the hotel, only a gas station.

ROOM: As expected from all Mercures, very clean, modern and TV even offered internet radio. In room safe, fridge, and even a trouser press were all standard amenities.

VERDICT: Great choice for overnight/transit airport passengers. Not recommended for extended stay due to remote location.

I DONT RECOMMEND to stay IN THIS HOTEL FOR TOURISTS ,because you will need to take a shuttle to the airport '-then a train and then a tram to see the city,THIS TRANSPORTATION TO THE CITY IS TIME CONSUMING AND TIRING ,SLEEP QUALITY -BAD BAD-hotels bed are terrible AND the walls are very thin ,the cleaning lady in the mornings slams the doors -COULDNT SLEEP!!
the STUFF WAS VERY FREINDLY but in amsterdam everyone is! so its not an advantage , they didnt know to recommend on resturants ,THIS HOTEL IS MAYBE GOOD FOR BUSINESS OR FOR SOMEONE WITH NO OTHER CHICE. !

Other reviewers agree that the staff is great and the rooms are clean and decent, albeit with slightly worn carpeting; I'd argue that the bathrooms are more than decent with a 110v outlet, functional bathtub and hair dryer.
For the price-conscious, I found a better rate here than at Accor's lower-tier Ibis and Etap properties when using my company's client code. Those with a car can appreciate the parking options across the road and the proximity to major highways.

For the car-less who want a nice room at a good rate, though, there remains the issue of location: halfway between the airport and the city.
That's not entirely a bad thing, though. If you're doing business with ACN, IBM, NCR, PWC or others with offices in SW Amsterdam, you're very close. In the summer, you’re steps away from a small beach and a lovely wooded area. Just down the road, you can board a number of suburban bus lines (I don't think they accept the GVB day-card); the trick is to know exactly when they arrive and where they're going.

However, if you're willing to walk 15 minutes to the north to Nieuw Sloten, you can access good restaurants, supermarkets and Tram 2 to Vondelpark, Leidesplein and Central Station; check it out on Google Maps, and be sure to walk on the pedestrian/bike path, not the roadway! You’ll reach many city destinations faster and cheaper this way than by using the airport shuttle and rail service – if you’re dressed for the weather and the walking.

But the quickest and most authentic way to roam the city – or nearby countryside -- is by bicycle, and the hotel has a few available for rental. Liability is limited to 100 Euro; two locks are supplied. Follow the bike path to Amsterdam via the Nieuwe Meer locks, a sight in itself.

A few other notes: the odd-numbered rooms face a charming quiet pond while the even-numbered rooms face a busy road and rail corridor. There is a lift way down the hallway; rooms offer a free safe and a small refrigerator stocked with pricey beverages and snacks. Various room media options exist either for for free or fee; two free internet terminals (with printer!) in the lobby operate virtually 24 hours. I also appreciated something I've not seen before in my budget travels: a bedside switch for all room lights!

In summary, if you can make this hotel's location work for you and your agenda, you'll enjoy your stay and still have money to spend on other things.

After arriving in Amsterdam on our way back from New York to find that all UK airports were closed due to the Icelandic volcano we had to take whatever hotel was offered to us.We definitely struck lucky! At what was obviously a very difficult time for the staff they went out of their way to help us. They put an extra bed into our room to accommodate our son and the shuttle bus just kept going backwards and forwards to the airport so that we were able to keep returning to the airport for updates on the situation.
The hotel is in pleasant grounds with a lovely terrace overlooking a small pond. Opposite the hotel is a huge lake with pleasant walks and beach and swimming areas. A bus stops outside for a 3 euro trip to the centre of Amsterdam.
The first two nights we ate in the hotel restaurant. The food was very good although the choice was limited. This was explained because they had an unprecidented run on stranded passengers arriving at the hotel.
In spite of our uncertain situation we spent a pleasant 4 nights at the Mercure and would like to come back to Amsterdam in more relaxed circumstances and would most likely choose this hotel particularly because of its location as obviously a city centre hotel would be more expensive.
We finally managed to escape? by catching the train to the Hook of Holland and caught a ferry to Harwich!

I was satisfied with the hotel, near the airport, free shuttle bus, friendly staff. We came to the room, windows were open and heating off. Outside around 0°C and in the room freezing cold. We turn on the heating, but it didnt get much warmer, cos the the heater was warming up very slowly. It was very unpleasant.

...arriving late in a cold night, already jetlagged, and having to get up early in the morning: do you wait for the 30 min interval bus? If you do not and take the taxi, it will be 25 Euro ( for ref I had paid some 50 Euro for a taxi ride from La Defense in Paris to CDG) Unhappy with the cost of the ride, you arrive at a Mercure that is not the flagship of the chain. It looks tired.

The shuttles to airport run on time but to call this an airport hotel is 'limit'. My business travel agent needs to do more research!

The hotel has a parking but they request money for day. It was the terrible thing that I faced. But please inform that accross the road there is a FREE parking lot. It is not easy to get city center ,In the weekend shuttle bus hours are very rare.
But it can be said it is a clean hotel with great breakfast
