“No food allowed”

Our stay at this hotel was marred by the hotel rules that "for hygienic reasons it is not allowed to bring (fast food) and open drinks into the hotel. If it is really for hygience reason they should not allow food room service as well. Clearly it is for monopolistic profit reasons that they do not want hotel guest to bring food into the hotel. The restaurant should then be opened 24 hrs to support the rules.. However it closed at 10pm and when we enquired with the hotel, there was no food available, So we brought back some japanese food from a nearby rest which was about to close and we were stopped at the lobby that we are not allow to bring food into the hotel. The rules are full of contradictions and are unfriendly to hotel guest. Do they expect our little children to stand outside in the cold winter to eat at the roadside?. It's time someone use their head when setting rules.This is rare rule which i have not come across in my many years of staying in hotels all over the world.

Dear Sir,
Your comments were reported to me after you checked-out. In our lobby it is clearly marked that guests are not allowed to bring food from outside the hotel. When we serve room service we take the tray and remaining food out after the guests have finished their meal. Our experience with fast food is that the remains are laying around in the rooms and sometimes are stocked in our minibars. This is not acceptable for hygienic reasons and also as prevention agains unwanted animals. Before installing this rules, we had sometimes mice coming in our rooms from outside despite our pest-control measures. So we kindly request our guests to consume their fastfood in the restaurant where they have purchased it and count on their understanding. This is not a rule only applied at our hotel but is also part of the Uniformed Conditions for the Dutch Hospitality industry.
We hope that, despite this incident, you had a pleasant stay in our city

Just returned home after a 4 night stay at this marvellous hotel. Its in a fantastic location, right on Dam Square, and within a short walking distance from Centraal Station and all the sights. The room looked recently renovated with a comfortable bed and soft pillows. All enhanced by great service from very helpful staff. Dinner in the restaurant added to the enjoyment of the trip.

Second time I am staying at hotel Amsterdam and just love the good service, comfort and clean rooms, central location by the Damm square, and a lovely breakfast.

It's especially nice when the staff asking how you are when you meet them in the morning and afternoon. It feels like they really take care on you.

We are very pleased with our stay here. You're right at dam Square. Our flight from boston, arrived early in the morning and we where at the hotel around 9:30am. Although check in was at 2pm I think, they let us in the room right away. That was huge for us because we left boston at 6:30pm, and I can't sleep in airplanes. The rooms are very clean.

Excellent location, friendly front office staff, fortunate to have an early check-in. All in all PERFECT!Good shopping location nearby, near Royal Palace. Tram station is in front of the hotel. Good choices of food in the nearby location

Really great location next to Dam. Couldn't be more central. Friendly, helpful staff. Standard room was fine- big enough and comfortable bed. Clean and quiet. Overall thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would definitely recommend it.

I have stayed here many times over the last decade and keep returning. This visit was for business and so I was with colleagues, more often my wife and I have visited for mini-breaks. We keep going back because it is so good! The atmosphere is always both friendly and professional. The rooms are very comfortable (especially the newly refurbished rooms we stayed in this visit). It is also very nice to see the same staff members year after year. This is sadly rare and I hope is a sign that the Amsterdam is a good place to work - it's certainly a good place to stay. The restaurant also has a lovely and unique decor, and we've always found both the food and service to be superb. Finally, there's the location - it's convenient for just about anywhere, with a tram stop literally right in front.

Room Tip: IMO the superior rooms are worth the extra for the space they give.

Our aim is to give our guests a pleasant stay and I am happy that we succeeded in your case. We are not the best hotel in town and not the most beautiful but I believe my staff makes the difference. As you have noticed our staff turn-over is extremely low and often people who have worked for us once, are returning. That is not because we overpay them but because of the atmosphere of mutual respect and trust which makes this property a nice place to work.
I was happy to learn that you like our newly refurbished rooms. We are refurbishing another floor which has to be ready before Christmas and half February 2013 the whoe hotel will be refurbished. We look forward to welcoming you again
